What's the last malt-forward beer that impressed you? (That's not high ABV or barrel-aged.)

You nailed it. For me, the overpowering roastiness often masks all those other interesting flavors--sort of the soft underbelly of malt. Definitely a rarity to find something like this from an American brewery, especially one who specializes in very modern IPAs. I'll drink it while I can. Cheers.

If you're near fieldwork and enjoy well nuanced malty beers I would heartily recommend their Belgian inspired styles. They might be hyped for their ipas, but their malty beers are subtle and wonderfully balanced

We're lucky here in New England that we have a few breweries who are specializing in lagers. Notch, Jack's Abby, and Schilling.

Both Notch and Schilling not only brew this style, but they brew multiple versions. Jack's Abby recently had one canned from a pilot batch as well.

If post-pandemic ever finally arrives and I can travel out of state without quarantining maybe I will get the opportunity to try these.

In the interim I am very happy to be able to drink Dark Angel from Horzempa Brewing.

I will tell my wife she was the developer of that label using an online label vendor.

There is a back story to her name selection. During out two week vacation to Prague in 2019 we stayed in the Prague neighborhood of Anděl (which means angel in Czech) so she decided to name the beer based upon our stay. And needless to say Dark since the beer is a Tmavý Ležák- Czech Dark Lager).

I think any good IPA should start out barley malt solid, then acquiescence to the bitter hop finish. The most recent one I've enjoyed may be disqualified by its +8% ABV, but the relatively unknown Libation, from Saint Boniface is a great example.

Thanks, I look for it here in Philly.

Thanks, I usually don't seek out the style and that is probably my loss. We do get a good selection of German brews in Philly, so I may find it, maybe on tap.

I had Fox Farm Quiet Night Czech dark lager recently. Lightly roasty and clean finish, really well done. Everything I have had from fox farm has been exceptional.

Having a first Urban Chestnut Zwickel in a long while. Very nice malt to hop balance leaning to a great German malt character.

Was a good night for malty beers. Had a 2014 Old Foghorn barleywine from Anchor Brewing that was just divine. Best of the few I've had from.that pack recently. Followed up with a 2018 Ridgeway Imperial Russian Stout that was wonderful

Just had one the other day -- 3 cans left. Sorry it's becoming scarce around you.

That said, I didn't check the dates when I grabbed this pack, first can seemed a little off from my memories of first trying it.

I left this last can in the fridge for a couple of months. The others I drank quickly. Canned, rather, best before July 9th. Not much of a hop profile so this can also pleased me though I should have downed it earlier.

Fridge probably saved it a better extent than my pack sitting on a shelf.

Planning on another tomorrow, need to remember to check the date.

Enjoyed a few Rogue Yellow Snows today. Adding spruce tips to a traditional Pilsner is some type of evil genius. It’s the warm weather version of DFH Pennsylvania Tuxedo
