I don’t like toffee but I do like Phase Three’s Pressed series, and this one doesn’t disappoint.

    Happy sunny Saturday BA's

Did nice sunrise hike with Emma - always fun and we spooked some deer, saw several great blue herons and osprey, some pussywillow, coltsfoot and skunk cabbage blooming etc...spring is here!

    Time for some baby juice!

Going through some pics from our NYC trip from april 2014. I still remember I felt like a kid in a candystore when going to some grocerystores and finding all that american craftbeer.

I still have to try my bottle. I had the Crooked Stave 'The Hills Have Envy' the other day and was blown away by that beer. The last I looked, there's no more of the Maple Bourbon Stout' available, maybe a few more bottles of 'THHE'.

    Anyway, glad you love it!!!

I still have a bottle of the Funky Buddha Maple Bacon you provided. If I were truly crazy, I'd try a side-by-side with the Hunahpu that should show up today. But I'll moderate myself...:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Have a good Saturday. My gf just drove to her old apt for the weekend, will be back tomorrow night. I had a bunch of subs last night after sleeping all afternoon after the prok chop sandwiches. More asshole people coming in the store, not much different.

Last bottle of this tripel for now. I been fucking around with BIAS FX, and this is Line 6 Helix Native. Amazing versatility. Glad to finally have the pitch shifters. So you can play pretty much any tuning(as long as the intervals are correct between strings), I tried it yesterday. Everything works flawlessly. Even the voice plugins. I have been working(intermittently) for over 8 years to get to this point. Alcoholism took all other hobbies away, previously.

I love, love love it!! Thanks again for a rare beer flying under my radar! Several 5’s in the log book...

Re: your proposed side by side...Two completely different beers IMO. The Huna will match up better with Westbrook’s Mexican Cake, or similar imperial stout where the proof is in the peppers. The FB porter should do fine in a side by side with similar flavored lower gravity coffee/maple porters.

Either way you go, you can’t go wrong - Cheers!

Ok, couple errands done and a nice little hike knocked out, I have nothing to do but enjoy the day. So I figured I'd kick off things before the NCAA tourney games with a side-by-side-by-side-by-side with Founders barrel-aged beers. Get it? Kickoff; basketball games... funny, ri--

    Wait. Never mind.

Anyhow, onto the tasting. GF poured these for me, so I don't know which is which. We'll go #1-4: #1 Old Ox glass; #2 Flying Dog glass; #3 Lost Rhino glass, #4 NoVa Beerfest glass.

    Look:
The beers had head ratings that match their glass number. My eyes crossed and got tired trying to get any difference in body color; I would think I noticed something and then I wouldn't. So we'll call them the same in body color.

    Nose:
#1 - coffee, a but of sweetness that seems like maple, lightest bourbon toast/char
#2 - definitely a bit more coffee, not as sweet, more dark chocolate
#3 - sweeter, brownie with an edge of dark chocolate
#4 - lightest nose of all, a little coffee and bourbon barrel

So I'd say bourbon barrel wise, #1, #2 and 4 about the same, #3.

    Taste:
#1 - coffee, bourbon, less sweet than expected, noted hop-like bitterness in back
#2 - more coffee notes, and the notes are a little more astringent; bitterness seems from roast/coffee more than hops; little bourbon sweetness in back
#3 - sweeter, brownie to fudgy - but not overwhelming; more chocolate than coffee or bourbon
#4 - not as sweet as #3, but sweeter overall than others (starts like #1, but stays sweet), hint of a raisin note in back before the lightest bite of bourbon

I actually think I have these down, and if I do (@Roguer and @FBarber), I like the newer beer a little more than I did last week and compared to the others in this tasting (though to repeat, it is the newest). I've felt this confident before, though, and been wrong. Often.

    Lets ask the GF....
Woohoo!!!!!! I was right. I think that might be the first time ever with this many beers.
#1 glass - Panther Cub (2nd favorite by a little)
    #2 glass - KBS (favorite)
#3 glass - Mackinac Fudge (3rd slightly over...)
#4 glass - CBS (last, but a year older than KBS, Mackinac)

What do I win for getting it right?

    Oh yeah, these beers.

Side note: the GF said Mackinac Fudge was also easy to pick out, she liked Panther Cub the most over Mackinac, and really couldn't distinguish which she liked of KBS and CBS, even though she noted slight differences in flavor.

    Happy Spring Weekend #1, BAs!!

65 degrees out and I’m using this time to replace the rear outside door handle on the girlfriends car. It didn’t exist so I’m going to put one in. Cheers to taking interior door panels off without a problem.
