I love Redband. Usually a staple in my fridge and the wife loves it too, so it doesn't last too long. She picked up a 4pk the other day and sent me a message about the first can tasting sour/infected. So, I was curious to try this and see what she was talking about. When I tasted it, I could definitely taste it was off... I'm no beer judge/cicerone/tasting expert, but I think I have a handle on an off-flavored stout. I've had the Peruvian Morning infected batch and actually kind of like it. The Redband definitely had a sour-tart flavor to it. I emailed the brewery last week, but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone else notice this recently? I searched the forums for this (not very hard though...) and saw a review with that in there, so I wasn't sure if it was just a crazy can that had the issue or a whole batch. I'll open another of the four pack tonight to check, but I'm suspecting more of the same.

I had messaged the brewery on FB about this probably four months ago, as i had two entire four packs that were infected and undrinkable. They dont date the cans, but im guessing it was some old stock(not that it should matter). This WAS a staple for me until then, im hesitant to buy it now, even at the great price of 6.99.

I know the more recent 4 pks have a red colored can holder, older 4 pks have black holders. Maybe I'll roll the dice on this again and see what happens.

Did they respond to your message at all? I'll take a look at the holder when I get home and see... good to know!

They never did, no. I know the two I bought that were infected were pretty old. I probably had ten 4 pks before that , and all were good, but that was about this time last year , when they first hit the market

I've definitely had an infected four pack, but we were tailgating, so we just drank 'em.

I also had a couple of tart 4-packs in late August/early Sept. Bought them at Haskell's StP, and so I assumed (incorrectly?) that they weren't terribly old. Between the issue with their canning line and the fact that previous my experiences with the beer were very good, I figured I'd cut them some slack and chalk it up to an isolated QC incident.

Wish they dated the cans, because I believe the freshness has a lot to do w/ the sour issue. Despite the nice price, it doesnt seem to exactly fly off the shelves at some places.

Maybe ill grab some at Princetons this week, they should move a fair amount.

I believe the new canning line was delivered the end of August. How does a canning line disappear?

This makes me sad. They make good beer. I hope they can address it/fix it so I can buy some!

+1. Enjoyed a few 4 packs last year but with this issue sitting out there, probably need to pass until I know it's addressed.

To keep pine dust out of your mouth. (I hope you haven't been cutting any more trees like a few weeks back...)

It was actually to keep my nose from freezing off a few days back. Cold weather is cold.

Would be nice if they would address it at all. I emailed and left FB messages, but nothing

I agree. it was up there with one of the best strait coffee brews I had ever had. Maybe not quite as good as Coffee bender, but at almost half the price... Ill take it!
