I personally feel like trade posts have picked up since the rules were relaxed.

And if the overpaying part is true...I'd imagine that would bring more people to trade

@Todd any movement on killing or segregating out liquor ISO/FTs? The Limited forum is becoming majority bourbon and it's pretty irritating. I think it's done major harm to the more realistic trades this place used to be far better at fostering than social media.

I'm leaning toward killing it off.

I get what @Sabtos is saying. But, in the same respect (does some quick math), 47% of the posts on the first page of the Limited trade forum are for Continuance right now. Many of which are people trying to trade or get bourbon for it. This happens every single time there's a big SP release. Yeah, it's a little annoying seeing the Gamestop of the day brandished all over the trade forum and people trying to sling their tater juice one way or the other for it, but then it goes away after a day or two. Besides, I've made a couple of really nice bourbon for bourbon trades since this got the green light. I'd be bummed to see that option go away. My vote is for separating it out instead of outright death if a change needs to be made.

Either way, it's been a long ass day in my world, and in the immortal words of The Gang, I think I'll go stuff it down with some brown...

I have to agree for the most part. I’ve done a few good trades for both beer for beer, and bourbon for beer. And yeah, the number of people attempting to flip the latest SP for bourbon is absolutely hilarious, but it goes away after a few days.

    Why get rid of it?

I think that would probably work out for the state of trading on here about as well as the idea of requiring people to pay to trade. @Todd . Do you think that eliminating bourbon from trades will “force” people to all of the sudden trade big bottles of beer for beer instead of bourbon? Hell no, they’re just going to move to other social media and trade forums totally eliminating trading on BA.

I can see the idea of making a rule saying either your FT or ISO must include a beer, as opposed to straight bourbon for bourbon trades. After all this is a beer site, but eliminating bourbon all together from the trade forums just isn’t keeping up with the current state of trading, like it or not. So why kill it completely? Just make a rule all trades must include beer in some way if you feel the need to do something at all. @flat_lander

I'm not going to try to rehash all of it, but the topic has been discussed in numerous threads (including this one) with a numerous reasons cited by others.
Nope. It'll simply bring the trading forums back to beer, which many seem to increasingly want.

This might have been mentioned so i apologize. I do think trading as slowed down a bit.

I am pretty active on other social media platforms and it seems to me that no one doing much trading but rather buying and selling beer at secondary prices.

For those of us who don’t want to give our data to Facebook, but want to trade everything, this is a good site to do that. Removing the trade options would be a big disappointment

Yep. It's been well-established that trading has slowed down here mostly due to people moving to large social media platforms or skipping trading all together by simply offering to buy/sell beer on those platforms.

So the solution is alienate another (large) group of your traders sending them to other platforms as well by getting rid of bourbon? Cmon what type of logic is this

I don’t necessarily like the trend either, however bourbon has recently allowed me to trade for BEERS that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have been able to try. (Assasin, LPK, LPF, etc to name a few) I don’t have access to a lot of really desirable beer, other than tired hands but that doesn’t trade for the big bottles. However I occasionally score a nice bourbon bottle that allows me to TRADE for beer I want. The logic of eliminating it makes no sense, and you’ll only lose traders, yet gain none.

Just a reminder to everyone that this is BeerAdvocate.
I'm not interested in gaining more users who aren't here for beer.

I've also learned over the years that BeerAdvocate doesn't need to be everything for everyone. It's OK to focus just on beer (or just beer reviews, or just certain types of fests, etc). I just wish that I learned this earlier.

At the end of the day, you’ll never make everyone happy. It’s your site, do with it as you will, and whatever happens, happens. With the steep rise in profit-hounds for both beer & whisky, trading has become more of a win-lose battle, which is a sad change from what it started as & what it had probably been intended. I loved trading because I just recently got into beer last year, and like many who don’t have access to great beer, trading whisky (which I did have access to) allowed me to try stuff I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. That being said, seeing the types of asks of late on the trade boards, it’s just become exhausting constantly seeing the number of stupid offers, so maybe a reduction in trading volume will bring some peace to that. It would be nice to just bury this entire conversation by making a decision, since most of the comments here are not constructive.

I'm locking this one down now. As posted, it's been well-established that trading has slowed down here mostly due to people moving to large social media platforms or skipping trading all together by simply offering to buy/sell beer on those platforms.
