Has anyone made a racist, sexist, or homophobic comment on the thread or are you just that eager to point the finger and reiterate stale diatribes?

This thread makes me sad. My number one job as a parent of two white (probably straight) boys in America 2021 is to teach them empathy, something a lot of people posting in this thread seem incapable of. Life will likely be pretty easy for them since they were born on third base just like I was. I eventually did score, after years and years of unsuccessfully trying to steal second. We did NOT hit triples.

Ha ha! I would drink a beer called gay IPA, but as it so happens, this one has lactose in it. I’m all for inclusion, however, if you include lactose in my IPA I’m excluding it. Yes, I’m prejudiced against lactose. Ha ha!

People often joke about how they want a civiil war. I've heard the joke from friends of mine who are conservative and friends of mine who are progressive. "Let's just line up on opposite sides of the field and go to war." Hell, sometimes I've just wanted to duke it out with some people over political issues myself. But it gets us nowhere. The only way, in my opinion, to move forward is for people to start communicating. The fucksticks who raided the capitol on 1/6 aren't going anywhere. They're here and, whether progressives want to admit it or not, they are an important part of society. They make shit others rely on, they buy shit others are trying to sell, and, more importantly, they want to love and be loved. But, in my opinion, they're batshit nuts because they have been indoctrinated. Of course, they'd probably say the same about me. So where does that get us? Back to square one. Either we go to war with one another, which might be funny to joke about but would really suck if it went down, especially when my son turned fighting age OR we sit down, have a beer, and try to work it the fuck out.

Of course, I suppose, there is a third way, which is the way we've collectively chosen thus far. It's a hybrid of the two, where we go to war by hurling insults and accusations via media and elected officials while pretending as if we're having a dialogue. This, in my opinion, is a dangerous path, as it serves only the businesses and leaders who benefit from division. I think people need to move out of this path and pick one of the two that would actually produce results: step the fuck up and start punching each other in the face OR grab a beer, have a seat, open your ears and, most importantly, open your minds. I choose the second option.

I'm in a semi-optimistic mood today. Hope I can ride this wave a little longer. Feels good. Maybe I'll start drinking. Aecht Shlenkerla Helles would pair nice with my breakfast.

As an aside to the conversation, here is an editorial comment for Ba.
“It can’t be understated” may not be what you meant to say. If you meant it to be prescriptive, then “You shouldn’t,” “You mustn’t,” or “You ought not” would be better choices. If the intent was (as I suspect) to assert the exceedingly high level of importance of the subject matter, then “It can’t be overstated” is the correct verbiage to make point - as in ‘this topic is so critically important that it is impossible to overstate it’s significance.’

So why not let them stand instead of deleting them? Are you only looking for comments that are in general agreement with the article and yourself, and other posters? Because you disagree you deleted their voice because you can, they can’t delete yours, one sided , no? You were looking for commentary and reaction and you got it, it’s just not what you wanted to hear. Don’t like it delete it.

There are plenty of negative comments still in this thread. This is still very much a discussion. I'm guessing some pretty vile shit got deleted.

Homophobic hate speech is against the terms of service. It's amazing to me that this needs to be pointed out specifically.

Also, my intend was to reject OPs point that there have been no homophobic comments in this thread, not to start a discussion on moderation, which would be off-topic and therefore also need to be removed.

You can't find enough "racist, sexist, or homophobic comments" elsewhere on the internet and in "real life" to satisfy you?

That article was there to provoke a reaction, seems fair to let everyone’s reaction stand and count. If your only looking for consenting opinions what’s the point?

Perhaps so, and you let the author stand by his or her comments , and you have a face to put to it.

I supposed the website's owners and moderators figured (optimistically but perhaps, naively?) that people could comment without being "racist, sexist, or homophobic" ?

At my age whatever, you do your thing I’ll do mine and I’m good. As long as your not a threat to me or my family I’m fine with most anything. But again deleting views not consistent with your personal opinions is a pointless endeavor. So why provoke discussion if it’s clear it’s only a one sided event?

When you push hot button issues it’s ridiculous to not expect some pushback. There’s alway pro and con, but if you want to promote a controversial topic, then you let the commentary stand as long as it’s not personal attacks and or direct threats. If all you want is consenting opinions, then what’s the point? It’s exclusionary which in kinda of the opposite of what the article was I’m sure intending.

 But, but... it could happen, right? Someday?

(Now, me - I'm an eternal pessimist but I think it's 'cause one day I hope to be pleasantly surprised that I've been wrong about the human race all this time --- but time is runnin' out.)

@nc41 are you open minded enough to look and see if you might be reading this wrong??
One there are rules here which those who were deleted must have broke.
Calling a gay man a f- - is not someone speaking their mind, its inflammatory and in my opinion verbally combative and every where and everytime I see it it just causes harm.
If someone says gay people make them uncomfortable well thats their right and still leaves room for discussion
