    Schlenkerla Urbock

This is a love letter to the brewery that made me obsessed with beer. The brewery is "Heller-Bräu" Trum, but we all just say Schlenkerla - which derives from the name given to a person dangling their arms when they limp (owner in the late 19th century, Andreas Graser supposedly had an accident at the brewery which resulted in a limp). Their main product is their Dunkles Märzen, but their second most famous product is their seasonal Bock which is ceremoniously tapped on the first Thursday in October each year at their popular Bockanstich. It is brewed with 100% smoked malt made by the brewery. With an original gravity of 17.5, this beer is a regular Bockbier rather than a Doppelbock. There was recent talk here that this beer wasn’t a “traditional” Bock due to the smoked malt, but Schlenkerla would argue exactly the opposite - that this is a more traditional Bock than most… and they’ve named it “Urbock” or “original Bock.”

    Cheers BA.

Good morning and hoppy Sunday all!

Currently drinking a fine French Bière Blonde Brune (Brown Blonde Ale). A bit of an oxymoron and yet a fine offering with aromas and flavors of cocoa, coffee, vanilla and yet hoppy.

I’ll be following the one day classic Belgian race Liège- Bastonne - Liège on TV so I better be buzzed a bit. Go Alaphilippe! I reckon @Ocalafox, @VABA, @mogulskier and others will watch too on ESPN?

Interesting take on a style that I have no clue where to put here in the BA database:

Well, the beer certainly looks like a blonde... but a rough translation of their description gives me the impression that they might have been attempting to create a beer that looks like a blonde but tastes like a brown (?).

Thanks, would think it belong as a blonde yet with evident brown flavors considering the ingredients. Cheers!

ETA: listed as an American Pale ale on Untappd.

What are the ingredients? Looking at the flavors you got from it, it sounds like it could be like the "blonde stouts" some American brewers make.

Got a new beer chilling from yesterday and a beer I’ve never had before, I bought it strictly off Jacks recommendation. It’ll be Lawson’s Little Sip, I passed on in last week thinking it was a Session Beer. It’ll be a nooner beer though, If I drank now I’d sleep all day.

The name certainly encourages that perception in today's market. I was shocked to see that it was 6.2% ABV. Seems unintentionally irresponsible of Lawson's to me.

Last week when I saw it I just didn’t bother I just reached for SOS. Saw Jacks review and saw it was a Pale Ale over 6%, so returning to PA this week saw it and bought it. Seems a weird name for the beer, I think they missed the mark there.

A decent impy stout which lost points because the brewer is too cheap/too lazy to determine/publish ABV and to date the bottle.

A hazy NEDIPA from France again, using Belma, Citra, Motueka and Nelson sauvin hops.

    Cheers!
