Long time lurker in the former new england sub. Basically done with BA if the merger sticks. I came here to find out about local releases. The merger is just a mess and covers far too broad of a region. What is gained by merging the communities?? All it does is make it more difficult to find the discussions I care about.

Yes I understand nobody cares what I have to say and some people like the merge. But I'm done with BA forums until the new england forum returns.

And you’re in Utah? My head is spinning.

Nah that's bogus. I'm actually from the Seychelles.

How does merging the two subs make any sense? If you wanted to see PA/NY, you could go to the old sub. If you wanted New England, go to New England. Now if I want to see only new england I have to filter through dozens of posts about breweries I don't care about in PA, NJ, NY.

Agree that this is somehow a play for ad revenue.

I’m boycotting BeerAdvocate until each county has its own sub.

You think I have time to sort through all the hogwash happening in York when I want the freshest news on Lancaster beer? No thanks.

Sunday was 15 yrs on BA and I didn’t get one additional point of Beer Karma. Then I’m suddenly reading about DC/NoVA releases. Not a good start to my BA week.

Wonder what’s good at RateBeer :stuck_out_tongue:

Alternately, merging the subs: the solution that nobody asked for to solve a non existent problem.

I mean, I’m pretty neutral on the solution, but I don’t know about “non existent problem.” I’d be surprised to see anything but a sharp decline in activity here over the past five years.

Dozens? Of the 30 threads on the 1st page, 12 are from the previous Mid-Atlantic region. The 2nd page appears to be an even 15/15 split.

The merger downgrades my user experience, rather than improves it. I pretty much only care to regularly read about the breweries near me, and what they are putting out. If I want to read about Other Half, or Tired Hands, I went to the subforum where they live. Pretty easy system. Now everything is in the same place, but a big percentage of it is stuff I'm not interested in, because I'm not going to NJ or DC or PA for beer, and it's not gonna make its way up to me anyway.

Why combine the busiest forums? Shouldn't the least busy forums have been merged, and the busy ones left alone?

And in those 15 years, you've reviewed zero beers. Contribute more?

Rhode Island's beer scene isn't that strong. But what goes down here is, obviously, important to me. But, since it's not that strong, our stuff tended to get lost in the shuffle, if not omitted altogether, in the New England forum. Tossing us in with all these other states will make it even more difficult.

It’s a joke. I’m aware that I don’t contribute anything substantial to BA.

I really don't care about the merger-I can still find the threads I am interested as I suspect everyone else can as well. The merger doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it also is not a big deal. I actually hope that it leads to more conversations that might not have happened if we didn't naturally see more threads. As some one who likes to travel and plans more of it it in the next year, I am happy to see threads from the greater Northeast.

Becoming self-aware actually gets you Beer Karma.

I mean, look what it did for Sky Net.

I've been reading this website's forums for probably 20 years (yeah, my join date is 2005 but before that I wasn't too keen on "joining" websites - I was a newsgroup guy). Never realized you were supposed to read every thread in one's regional forum:grimacing:. Am I gonna lose B**r K*rma or get kicked out of the Society now that I admitted it?

But I'll probably keep skipping threads I have no interest in, and, since I usually always read the New England forum, it'll now be easier to skip those, too.

And maybe universities will once again require freshmen to take classes in rhetoric. Nah, identity politics is just much more...entertaining.
I can already see the benefit of this merger forcing a new dialectic.

I figure the most likely result of this change as pertains to me, personally, is the possibility that I'll consider beer-vacationing in a southerly rather than northerly direction. Goodbye VT, hello PA.

Today the Northeast forum, tomorrow the World forum.
