Certainly people shouldn't hold back on creating threads, that wasn't my point. My point was that higher traffic within a larger region will tend to push more of the hyped breweries to the top and the lesser hyped breweries will tend to be lost. Buying local has always been a big push in the craft world and its even more important in the current environment. This doesn't help the smaller, local breweries, it hurts them. For smaller breweries distribution is a zero sum game. They need brewery sales to grow and they need to grow to make distribution profitable. So a change that will likely reduce smaller breweries from getting noticed on a local (no longer local at all) forum is not a good move. Why not remove the regional forums all together? What's the point any longer?

Hi Nate, what are your thoughts on who should get the TH designation in this new forum?

Who do I send my official request for a "US - Fox Farm" subforum to? I believe that every single beer deserves its own thread.

LOL jesus come on. Breweries are not 'hurt' because there is no conversation of them on Beer Advocate forums, that's beyond ludicrous. Mortalis and Fidens are two of the most hyped breweries in the country right now and neither has a thread on here that anyone actually posts in.

It's odd that reading through this thread all the mid-atlantic people are fine with the merger and most of the NE people are against it.
Personally i'm against the merger because i feel like NE brewery threads got enough non-locals chiming in to start fights before, and it'll only get worse now.

This is probably because the vast majority of MA threads and posters are NY/NJ/PA and a lot of us likely travel to the New England states pretty often for beer (and whatever other reasons). I know I already regularly read the New England forum for that exact reason.

Data says otherwise, also if I voted I'd say nay, so I added myselft, I hadn't posted a position yet.

    NE forum against: 10
    NE forum for: 0
    NE indifferent: 3

    Midatlantic against: 4
    Midatlantic for: 3

    ***Utah against: 1

I'm not sure what this data means, interpret as you will. I'm not sure where to count CT, sure its NE, but we all know there is NE CT and midatlantic CT.

Here is the poll thread that was created...(sorry if it was already shared)

There are people who like it

There are people who dislike it

And then there are the below people who are going to stop using BA because of it:

This thread is brutal. Same shit, different day.

Tailor your experience on here however you like. It is not difficult. Ramp up your Watched Threads and keep tabs on things you want to consume. The merge, whatever side you're on, really shouldn't impact anyone that much.

Huh, well i admit i'm wrong. I guess the mid-atlantic folks that are for it are just very vocal about it. I agree that overall it doesnt matter that much, but if given the option i'd rather they separate.

Can we all agree CT is not pulling its weight in the northeast? Kanye voice "if CT ain't have fox farm, they'd have nothing". There is a redeeming factor in that they have the jam band Goose.

I stopped using that a long time ago because it wasn't working consistently. I'd see threads in which I was watching be updated and I didn't receive a notification.

But yes, for the most part that function does work.

    I've never heard of them.

While I don't have any data to back this up, I highly doubt this. I just scrolled through the first part of the Notch thread and the vast majority of posts were from MA users, and most of the others were from New England.

I used Notch because it was one of the most replied to/viewed threads in the New England forum.

Ok fair enough. But I keep coming back to this. How is this improving the user experience?

I can't think of more than a couple reasons, and it's a stretch that those will actually improve the user experience.

But I can probably find multiple reasons in this thread and the one on the main forum for why this change is not helpful.

That’s because, at some point, you got the notification and decided to not check the thread. The next time you check it it initiates.

Again... not at all understanding the inconvenience here (even minor ones), in case someone can explain.

In all my years on this website I have never seen somebody say "I have no goddamn idea what I'm talking about" so powerfully and succinctly. Truly impressive.
