So no black person wanted it badly enough before Jackie Robinson? I don't even know what to say.

@drac86 You wrote as if I didn't understand your point. Then put words in my mouth, painting me as a possible ignorant racist. That was no where even near the point I was making.
So do you need me to be a racist?? Am I supposed to completely accept your point but mine gets misdirected

I was once hired at an all black clinic in a predominantly black neighborhood. They actually said they were hiring me because I was white
I knew the odds were not good and it was one of the worst experiences I ever had. But I tried it with all my heart because I believed in what I was doing and knew I could help.
The fact that I was mistreated there was never a point I stuck to.the point I made here was at some point we are going to face opposition but must decide if we feel its worth the effort

I suggest you reread your own post. It didn't sound very good.

Im not sure how you read into that the point you made.
Of course people wanted it and still do as people are constantly trying to crash through glass ceilings. But waiting till everyone excepts the changes you're putting forth will never break those ceilings

Perhaps @DIM is correct and I didn't explain myself properly. I agree with the cause completely but whenever this topic comes up,anywhere people are quick to label

As I interpret your post, you seem to be implying that racism or homophobia is just another obstacle to overcome like inexperience or lack of funds. That is what got my hackles up. Those are obstacles nobody should have to face and yet they still do.

@DIM And you are 100%right, it should be a level playing field. Why my hackles were up is despite those obstacles there is always someone willing to suffer the beat down to succeed. That isn't homophobic of me but genuine admiration for those first few.
Someone has to march first in an attempt to level the playing field and again that's beyond admirable

Imo most craft bars are very liberal and very inclusive, my opinion right there, the staff and clientele are young, well educated and very friendly to anyone who’s there. The bars are filled with men, women, kids, some dogs, etc, and they’re also college towns. I know theres servers at the bar that I go to that are gay, and I don’t see anyone there who cares one way or another. The days of surly guys hovering over their Schaefer with a cheap shot of Calvert is probably over in most places. I will note there’s definitely a lack of racial diversity in the bars I’ve been in, this would include Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Burlington, why this is I don’t know, just a mental note that the numbers don’t reflect the local demographics. I was refused service in a local bar may many years ago because I’m supposing simply because we had long hair. The bartender just ignored us, and we left, we weren’t welcome there and we knew it. That was like 1974/75, just remembered that.

I have nothing but admiration for Jackie Robinson and others who broke color barriers in schools and sports. But what I feel more strongly is anger because people who look like me put them through hell.

I can tell your passionate and thats great. But how are we supposed to love one another when we have to still hate a part of ourselves or a part of someone else.
You are removed by age and time from those people who threw garbage at Jackie.
The healthier act instead of past anger, which can't be fixed just buy WHOEVER is sitting next to you a beer. I've done it and its amazing the effect it has 90%of the time

These fights are far from over, there is still plenty to be angry about. I believe that racism is on the rise in this country and transphobia in particular is somehow tolerated to heartbreaking degrees. When dropping my son off at elementary school the other day I saw a pickup truck dropping another kid off. It had a bumper sticker that read "proud to be white". So yeah, I'm going to stay pissed.

Anger over horrible things that have happened in the past is how we don’t forget and let them happen again.

Anger over horrible things in the past is healthy and very intelligent. But I wasn't saying to forget
What I said was hating oneself,or part of yourself for someone else's acts isn't productive

No, and I did not mean to put words in your mouth - I was simply reacting incredulously to what seemed to be a pretty crazy statement. I apologize if I dramatically misinterpreted your words, but it doesn't seem like I was the only one who read it that way. Perhaps it's because we DO have the prominent exceptions that I mentioned - like, I'm not sure we need a "Jackie Robinson" of beer in 2021 - we just need more everyday acceptance of people.

I've caught up on the rest of the thread and replies, and I think we are largely on the same page... I'm all about people sitting down and buying each other a beer and having a good conversation, and of course those who are the first to do so under adverse circumstances should be lauded for their bravery. But as I've mentioned (and a few other folks), the big problem is actually getting someone in the door to be able to buy them a beer to begin with. We've made strides in that area, to be sure, but we haven't closed the gap; remembering how things used to be is important so that we can keep moving forward.

And, even then he needed a white dude to sign him, and believe that he was the "right" black man.

    I skipped page 2-7.

Is it true that Jackie Robinson is gay and is now making beer?

    Maybe I misinterpreted something
