Let's get back to speculating about VSOJ. Wonder how it's going to compare to the last version. Feels like they've learned a lot since that came out about extended aging. I know I'm very excited.

 

...on the flipside, pretty much everything went RIGHT on the first VSOJ, and our expectations (mine at least) are SKY HIGH. Given the amount of chance that comes with this kind of experiment...I'm trying to prepare myself that I might not love this one as much.

It’s the universal rule of craft beer, b1 was always better... unless a subsequent batch was more limited and you got to try it, in which case that was best.

 

With how good VSOR, sanctuary beers of that variety, and older draft versions of VSOJ were, I have a feeling it's going to be terrible and no one should buy it. I'll take care of getting rid of it all.

 

I also had a crowler of VSOJ purchased the day after a later release party, but I always assumed it was the same "batch", just put in kegs...and that was absolutely fantastic.

 

I know. That was kinda my "joke," claiming b1 is better than a batch 2 months away from being released.

This is not directed at you @A-Smoove ... Everyone, just because a VSOJ release gets announced let's not all get too cereal here. Seriously. I'm super cereal.

Someone else can fact check me here (I'm guessing @VinHalen54 ), but VSOJ had been around prior to the Oct 2018 release in cans. For example, Untappd tells me I was drinking pours of it at the brewpub in Feb 2018, and I know it had been around before that because I had been on the prowl for it for a few months by the time I was sitting in front of a snifter of it. This begs the existential question of what VSOJ really is b1? The lines get fuzzy here for me just knowing the size, scope, and age of their BA program. Which reminds me, I really want to go back and sit among all those barrels.

I was curious too, I have check-ins from Jan 2017, looks like a Straight Jacket release at Kedzie. Not sure if that was the original or if it goes back earlier.

 

Setting the proxy issues and which batch is best aside, I hope we can all agree on one thing: If you REALLY want VSOJ, make sure you DM, email, and call Rev non-stop and mention VSOJ every time you’re in the tap room. Josh Deth personally keeps score and will release cans in advance to the most interested folks.

 

I believe Jan 2017 was the original/first VSOJ, and then kegs of that same batch popped up sporadically until the canned batch was released Oct 2018. Which batch you call b1 is entirely about how much FOMO you want to trigger in whoever you're talking to.

Either way Rev is 2 for 2 on VSOJ so far so I'm really damn excited about this new batch.

 

*I have vague recollections of a VSOJ in 2016, but cannot find proof - could be that I'm Very Old.

*VSOJ was 14% and on draft on 1/17/17 - described at the time as "20 mo. old Straight Jacket aged in Heaven Hill and Old Forester barrels". https://revbrew.com/beer/archive/vsoj

*VSOJ was 13.8% and released on 10/19/18 in cans for $35/4pk and on draft at special occasions. (always special when it was on draft).
(Of course, the DB VSOJ Cherry Rye on draft at the the VSOJ cans release party was outstanding too!)

You think VSOJ is too limited for proxies, but Anabasis isn't?

I predict VSOJ will sell out in minutes after mis-posting to frothy speculators that VSOJ is a new form of beer crypto....

VSOJ general entry for Untappd was created on 1/20/17. Looks like the technical first batch of VSOJ (draft only small batch) was first tapped on 1/19/17 at the Straight Jacket release. It stayed on tap until at least 1/21/17, cuz that's when I first had it!

That had to be one of the last if not last DW bomber releases!
