I saw in these stories that the General Store was labeled as "short lived." I knew they closed during the pandemic but figured it was a temporary thing, but then I saw the General Store is listed as Permanently Closed on Google and and it is removed from the Tired Hands website. I also saw Tired Hands doesn't list the Brew Cafe anymore. I don't see any announcement about that permanently closing. That would be a shame, I was hoping that would open back up as it was generally quieter than Fermentaria and I liked the paninis and candied bacon. Anyone know anything about this?

I was wondering about this too. There was mention that one of the stories said they took out a PPP loan, still laid off a bunch of people and had/have no intention of opening back up any of the locations for in house consumption. I wonder if Jean/Julie realized the bottom line was much more appealing sticking with to go/shipping only.

Not opening ever? I saw they filled the Ferm with reach in coolers, but having that as permanent would be pretty wild. Once things open up completely I think people will get tired of take out food from Tired Hands. Locals will be upset that they lost two good places to drink beer. I wanted to buy a house in Ardmore but we moved further up the Main Line, I would be pissed if couldn't drink on site in the future. Thankfully I still have Teresa's Next Door nearby.

Man, who in the world is buying their to go food at Ferm? $18-26 for a pizza! $18.50 for a cheese steak! Those prices are insane.

Do you mean that because there have been previous stories about them? Or just because the vibe they give off with the dumb beer names?

Jean always used the excuse of staying closed by saying “we will open once there’s a vaccine” then “once it’s safe to do so.”

clearly this POS enjoyed firing most of his employees and having a minimum staff, all the while maximizing profit on to go sales. I’m sure they were killing it too, I rarely went there to pick up a to go order when there wasn’t a line. I’m not surprised one bit if current employees are saying he really had little to no intention of reopening.

I met the two founders while they were contract brewing in Cooperstown NY. The one guy is a real jerk and probably has a Jean sized ego by now. He thought he was hot stuff 10 years ago.

Also, in the industry Jean has been known as a real jerk even when he was just a brewer at Iron Hill, none of these stories surprise me.

Both specific stories I’ve heard secondhand, and just general vibes.

Wasn't one of the Tired Hands stories Brienne shared about a chef physically assaulting an employee and that person was promoted and ended up being the one running St. Oner's? There's been so much shared I might be mixing up different things and/or that person could not be there any longer if it was what happened.

So the recent Instagram post "from the employees" says "we have 38 employees to support".

Part of the one accusation was that TH received a PPP loan based on 112 employees.

I would only keep the best ones and fire everyone else. These folks need to know that Pennsylvania is a right to work state. That means you can get fired at any time if you work a bullshit job like every other job at Tired Hands.

Also, you would have to think that the timing of said loan is a major factor, too. If the loan was around April/May of last year, early on in the pandemic, that makes a bit more sense to me. TH possibly held onto those employees as long as they could before laying them off. If you're overstaffed due to a pandemic, it's only a matter of time before you're forced to cut folks.

Won't go back to work due to poor pay/ treatment/ child care/ concern over COVID.... TAKE THE BENEFITS AWAY!

Works job and is let go, possibly under less than legal circumstances... YOUR JOB IS MEANINGLESS, GET A REAL JOB.

Come on, we can do better on this board than to denigrate brewery employees. Hopefully he did keep people on as long as the money lasted, but if not then he shouldn't have taken the loan.

The PPP loan stuff is only shitty if they kept people on payroll at minimum wage for the required period of time, rather than let them go so they could collect unemployment. The whole purpose of PPP was so businesses could keep people on their payrolls, but no doubt lots of business owners were dicks about it and screwed over employees for their own benefit.

Maybe what they did is spelled out in one of Brienne's posts, but if so either I missed it or am forgetting about it.
