Scotch Barrel Aged Beer in Chicagoland

Should be able to find Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale. 2021 was just released in the last month or so I believe.

Lake Effect has a BA Barleywine called Loch Effect aged in both Islay and Speyside barrels, not sure how available they are right now. JW Lees Harvest Ale Lagavulin Cask has also been available in the past.

 

Lake Effect has their Loch Effect barleywine available. I had one last night as a matter of fact. A touch on the sweet side, but plenty of smoky peat.

I think I remember seeing this at Lincolnwood Binny's recently, but you might want to call first.

Moody tongue also makes scotch barrel aged peated scotch ale which is fantastic.

If youre looking to trade then jackie o's scotch aged dark apparition is probably the best one I've had. Good luck finding any though, wish I could.

 

Huge, huge, huge fan of the Ola Dubh series. Not exactly aged in different scotch barrels, but different ages of Highland Park barrels. Unfortunately, as the years have gone on, that strong peat character has faded. I still have an Ola Dubh 30 that I'm kind of not looking forward to finding out I let sit too long.

 

Sounds like you need to drink that m'fer NOW!!

 

There was that Bourbon County Islay, which I didn't care much for. Probably out there somewhere on the secondary market.

Wasn't there a Scotch barrel aged Abyss in the not too distant past?

Also, Suffolk County Stout. Or is single malt whisky different than Scotch? I'm more of a bourbon person, so I'll let someone else answer that.

 

Having had the beer...it was definitely NOT aged in a scotch barrel.
