From her article it sounds like she came on after the initial idea of the brewery but before the founding. Who knows, but my guess is she had less than 1/3.

I don't think that aspect is really applicable to what she was saying happened. The exact terms of her ownership position with the company don't make what she's alleging any less or more OK.

As Indeed grows and prospers (If) her shares could grow in value theoretically.

She said that she was an equal partner on paper in her post.

Anyway I've been in a couple partnerships and signed numerous contracts in my life and learned one of the most important things going into a contract is defining what happens when you're getting out. When I hear a story like hers I just wonder what happened. A contract shouldn't go from being equal partners to driving one partner out and they're automatically SOL.

Now Tom posted on Facebook and the comment section exploded...

Seems Indeed has lost credibility with a chunk of their base, and Tom stepping down might be the only way to save face with many people.

Oof. This looks bad. Indeed makes good beer. I'll wait and see what they do for Rachel before I buy their beer again.

Do I read that correctly that Rachel started as employee who they then gave some equity to? Generally that is done when the company can’t pay fair market value for your work as an incentive to keep you in an underpaid position and not really giving you the power of an owner. Kind of like stock options. Doesn’t everyone complain about lack of promotions, fair pay, etc? I know I do. I just can’t use sexism as an excuse.

Everyone is using Rachel's story as the focus for why Indeed is terrible, but I am seeing a lack of specifics for why it was so terrible. Could be sexism, could be performance, could be many things. The lack of maternity is damning but otherwise I dunno. The other stories about managers' or Tom's behavior I find more compelling.

This is an EXTREME overgeneralization for the motives behind giving out company equity.

I have never been able to follow Twitter and Instagram (conversations / threads) well enough to get a good enough understanding of the feedback that can be derived from those.

But the tone of the comments on Indeed’s post on their own Facebook page, last night, has me convinced that the company and its shareholders will have experienced significant damage owing to their response,
    going forward.

Yeah, after a couple of reads it seems more like a story of a toxic workplace rather than sexism. This just seems like every other story of business people trying to take advantage of their less business savvy counterparts regardless of sex. Mark Zuckerburg didn't make a hundred billion dollars without stabbing some people in the back. Workplace toxicity or just taking advantage of trusting individuals? That's what that seems like here. Regardless, I wouldn't want to work for those guys after that read.

Why is the lack of maternity damning? Seems unfortunately pretty common in the US. What it tells me is they don't have any sort of Disability Insurance policy that is provided by the employer as that pays something for 6 weeks post partum. Outside of that, most people have to provide their own income during a maternity leave.

Toms response read a whole lot like "I can't be racist I have a black friend"

Its too bad, as I really liked indeeds beer, and it used to be a go to of mine before I cut way down on my drinking as carbs plus quarantine got me fatter.

I don't know what happened, but much like other things, I'm gonna believe the victim.

Interesting that she told them she was going to make her statement public and they did nothing. That in and of itself does make their apology seem pretty hard to take seriously. Like they thought they were calling her bluff.

Serious question: what would people like Indeed to do?

In the other (since shut down) thread there were a few things people were calling breweries to do: 1. Apologize & 2. Take Action. Looks like Indeed is doing/plans on doing both.

Is this a no-win situation for certain people who'll stop buying their beer (for a month or two), or are there other positive steps they could take?

I don't have the answer because I feel we don't have the whole Tom vs Rachel story. For some reason, I dont get the sense that she was the perfect employee and everything bad that happened to her is completely because she is a woman. But some other comments do make it seem that Tom helped create a toxic, possibly sexist and homophobic, environment, either through his own actions or turning a blind eye to others. So he might need to be ousted for forgiveness from many.

IDK what they should do, but apologizing for getting caught is no apology in my book.

Reminds me of 612 apologizing for selling sloppy suds.
