Ouch! Though that was a world-class smug-fest on the part of 612.

Am I the only one who had never heard of Indeed Brewing before this thread?

On the (off)topic of 612? Seriously, are they still hummin’ along with all tanks filled with yummy brew and “hot” ladies in the taproom,
    or what?

I haven’t seen their packaged product since wayyyyy before COVID.

Indeed is without a doubt a successful brewery. But within certain circles, Tom isn’t all that highly regarded as far as individuals are concerned.

I’m not saying that he needs to step down, but maybe he needs to consider what is in the best interest of his shareholders.

Either you aren't well versed on beers north of Illinois or we just found out why they got rid of their marketing manager.

Spent the day at the Indeed Milwaukee Tap Room last Friday and enjoyed talking with the bartenders. Always have Hello Milwaukee Lager in my refrigerator.

They are doing a great job in Milwaukee, really nailing a variety of lagers recently. Probably my favorite brewery in MKE, as Third Space and Good City seem to be locked in on maximizing profits, not really making fun or interesting styles for the most part, just more of the same stuff everyone else does.

Can someone concisely say what they are accused of?

I think Indeed's marketing when they launched as a brewery with Rachael leading those efforts was one of the best I've seen for a new MN brewery. The Indeed can art designed by local artist Chuck U hired by Rachael is very cool IMHO.

If I was starting a brewery I'd want Rachael leading the marketing efforts (and no I don't know Rachael).

I will try. Note that these are not chronological or in order of occurrence, nor are they listed alphabetically.

These are just what I remember from reading (and rereading) Rachel’s account of how she was treated first by her equal partners and co-founders, and later by other employees who took their “cues” from her partners:

    - Sexism*
    - Gaslighting / belittling
    - Valued less than male co-founders
    - Underpaid / not remunerated
    - Lack of personal and emotional support
    - Undervalued in her creative role
    - Under-supported in her co-creative role
    - Marginalization

I likely missed a couple of points.

It would be best to read Rachel’s own account (and/or the subsequent coverage at Brewbound) and take from it a better understanding of how Indeed has / had treated a key partner in the past.

If they’ve treated other employees similarly, they have a LOT of work to do in order to get to a place where they’re doing right by all of their employees, owners, and customers.

*The accounts of other customers (and perhaps staff as well) have mentioned homophobic comments from staff, as well as sexist and derisive comments toward women.

I have to say I read through her account and the only specific criticism I saw that could be construed as pertaining specifically to women was lack of maternity leave and related criticism. A lot of what she said and what you detail are complaints that could also be said by a male employee or partner.

Maybe she has her reasons for not providing more specifics as to her former partners sexist behavior, but right now I don't think all the dots have been connected here.

But they're not. They're from a woman. Women being a segment of the working population who've had many struggles in equality over...'the years'. Have all types, shapes, color, gender, etc. had issues in the workplace? Well of course. That, you surely know, isn't the point here.

But that doesn't make it sexism. It might be. All we know is that she wasn't happy with how she was treated, but why was she treated that way? Was it because she was a woman? Was it because they disagreed all the time? Was it because the two male partners felt that they put in a lot more hours (even pre maternity)? I don’t know and no one in this thread knows either. Everytime a woman feels undervalued in her job does not necessarily equate to sexism. Sometimes they aren't the best employees, same as men.

Now, as I have mentioned earlier, there have been other complaints regarding sexist and homophobic comments by employees and possibly leadership. And there have been comments about Tom being a drunken ass. So there is clearly a problem that needs to be addressed. I just don't understand the rallying behind Rachel like she was a 100% innocent victim in all this, because we simply don't know.

It is entirely possible that Rachel is simply using the recent reports of sexism in the Craft Beer Industry (which is really just a knock-on of the “metoo” movement, right?) to ‘get back at’ the people who drove her out of a leadership position in a company that she co-founded.

By that logical extension, it is also entirely possible that Rachel is just as manipulative as any other man or woman on earth is capable of being when they feel they need to resort to such behavior and methodology.

We just don’t know for sure — right?

I love where all of this is going.

I do not in any sense blame the women who have come forward in recent times to decry the sexism in the Craft Beer industry.

    Let’s get real, here.

The problem with sexism is that it transcends any single industry and permeates American society (and by extension, human society) at large, and I cannot believe that we’ll make improvements on a larger scale by simply conducting the sort of back-and-forth that has been going on in this thread.

Maybe Rachel isn’t and wasn’t 100% guilt-free in all of this, and maybe we will never know for sure. But I will continue to believe women when they provide their own detailed, personal accounts.

There are plenty of Craft Breweries out there, locally, regionally, and nationally, and plenty of stylistic choices, too.

    Vote with your dollars.

Where are you pulling leadership position from? She got equity in the company and a title of co-founder. That doesn't bestow any sort of responsibility or leadership. If she had a real role and title I think she would be using it on linked in. I suspect it was a low level role.
