Don’t be bringing logic in here, lol. My first year in HS and I can feel the true pain now

They’ve brewed this one as a seasonal release here in DC in the past and it is indeed awesome. First created I think for an epic Bruery beer and District Doughnut pairing event a few years back, and I’m looking forward to having it again. Sadly the eponymous Cherry Blossom doughnut is a spring seasonal and if I want to relive the pairing I’ll need to wait 9 months...

Wasn’t the previous DC one White Oak based? And this one a Blonde Stout?

So thinking of picking up some donuts when I get my box. What do you think would be fun pairings?

Tried caramel on parade and abuelitas special from the donut box. Good beers but happy I didn’t get a box. I’d say comparable to their bakery beers. Good but nothing to go crazy about. 2econd on the other hand. Wow. 5/5. Really thick. Banana is huge on the nose. Taste follows with chocolate and coconut being big as well. Barrel is definitely present but hidden well.

BirneSnap is delightful. Definitely grabbing some more.

It's got the same sickly sweetness from the fruit as Apfelsap (in that regard I prefer the relative dryness of BirneSap). Ginger is great, strong but balanced in. Lemon is subtle and works well.

I was debating on the same, but unless it's a plain old fashioned, I feel like the sweet donut on top of a pastry beer will kill the experience. Just my 2 cents

    1) Thinking about trying side by sides with other banana stouts. The most recent and locally available one would be Mass Appeal by BL. Coconana from Casa Agria could be an option, but that is not BA. Not a true banana-to-banana comparison (HA....see what I did there? get it? .....sigh....dad joke).
    2) Since I only have ONE bottle, now I'm hesitant to just open willy nilly and starting to feel that burn that HS Bruery-only would get 1 bottle. The membership that was designed for Bruery-lovers that want only BA beers and not the sours......

Bummer on the Donut Box. I'm sure the beers are good, but the hype made me want to believe they would be great. I think it's overall a good deal with the discount and the glasses might become my favorite set!

I didn't realize that HS-Bruery only got one bottle of 2econd either. Too bad. Mine arrived today, but I think I'll hold on to it for a little while.

Opted to not pull the trigger on the Doughnut Box. Sounds like a fun experiment. However, not being local and being familiar with the actual doughnuts that inspired the beer, is what ultimately held me back at the last minute.

That being said, I finally have Vanilla Villain lined up for the weekend. So, I'm really looking forward to trying that. Might make it to opening a bottle of Chew as well.

Any update on the BA section?

This is of particular interest to me, as I have not filled any of my seats from last year yet, but will go solo if there if is a BA section.

Opened up The Rutherfords. Enjoyable and on par with the other hybrids.

In my juvenile wine lingo, I'd describe it as pretty jammy compared to the others... And while sweet,I wouldn't call it sickly or cloying.

I really like the near absence of tannins. Very smooth and mellow.

The BT is very subtle for me. Just a hint on the finish.

Not sure if I'll buy more or not... But only because I've got several of the other hybrids cellared already. Plus we've got another hybrid coming in November, so might wait and see how that is under the assumption Rutherfords will show up in the Christmas sale...

Thanks for the write up. Looking forward to trying it as I loved Yount and the other Rutherfords. Veeder was shit though, but it seems this one is a winner.

I enjoyed Veeder too... I think it was maybe the most BT forward of the bunch?

That was an Erosion collaboration, so I'm betting the one this November (and for foreseeable future) will be with them too.

Makes me wonder if my bottle of Veeder was bad/oxidized. Straight buttery cab (in the worst way) with no Black Tuesday to be found. Shared with friends and was unanimously panned.

Tickets are almost sold out, and we're closing sales on Sunday. We'll post a survey here and create BA groups in the seating for each session if you add your name to it.

Just want to make sure, does anyone see the 13th Anniversary tickets in their cellar? I do not and had to check my email to make sure I had bought them! Whew! I only have the tickets that I had bought for the 12th Anni.
