It’s all in personal taste my man. Plenty of people found it to be a great idea.

The only carbonated OJ I ever taste or try is an older batch gone alcoholic. That shit is tangy rudimentary orange wine. I do remember exactly how it tastes and it's always a shock so early in the morning.

Sounds like a killer way to wake up though.

We were never able to sell spirits but I would buy their gin for sure.

I’ve noticed the trend of breweries getting into the distilling business as well. I personally don’t drink liquor but I suppose if someone does why not grab some of each at your favorite brewery? If for no other reason to patronize a business you were going to anyways.

Because mostly these spirits aren't as good as those coming from the distillers who have been making the stuff for a couple centuries. Yet because they consider themselves 'artisan' distillers they justify pricing their booze higher than comparable quality spirits in the marketplace. Yeah, their bourbon, vodka, gin, etc. all taste like they're supposed to, but it likely burns all the way down your gullet. IMHO you don't get what you pay for with these products.

I should add to my statement above that I'm not any kind of a spirits expert. I just think the phenomenon of artisan distilling (especially by breweries) is so new that none of the product has time to age so that it can mellow out a bit. At one distillery/brewery that had just opened for business I ordered a shot of whiskey, and it was as clear as vodka. So you know it hadn't seen the inside of a barrel to get some color. It could have been held in a tank for a while, but it certainly was not mellowed per the burn that I received. (I think it was $8 for that shot of whiskey. I couldn't finish it.)

If you haven't seen, Mrs. Renfro's just got a new Craft Beer Salsa recently. Unless I've just been out of the loop.

Picked it up the other day. Never had that Texas Red Amber before, but it sure works well here. A bit mild for my heat-loving tastes, but has great flavor which more than makes up for it. This is now my 2nd jar in less than a week, so it's got my recommendation.

I thought this was going to be a thread about a new craze called “Beyond Beer” , a new subsidiary of “Beyond Meat”. All of the flavor of beer, with non of the actual ingredients! It’s certified vegan too!

We spent a week in Belgium a few years ago, stating at a gite rural near Dinant. I started every day with Chimay cheese and Maredsous sausages. Lots of Belgian breweries make large lines of food products. When we went back to our house in France, we had a trunk full of different breweries' beer, cheese, sausages and mustards for a family party.

I never thought of it this way but that makes a ton of sense. Of course the prices are hopped up just because of the nature of small batch distilling, just like small batch beer, whether it’s any good or not. And me, not being s liquor drinker didn’t even think about it being a factor that the expertise of the beer brewer may not carry over to spirits. Good point

Like was mentioned earlier in the thread though and I’m curious if this is the case in that region or not, but do you know if the food is made by the brewery or made by a manufacturer and then licensed with the brewery branding?

The Maredsous food was made on site. My wife ignores roped off areas and somehow we found ourselves at their food building. As for Chimay: https://culturecheesemag.com/cheese-library/Chimay--Beer-Washed. It is made at the monastery
