So... Has anyone actually opened theirs yet? I hear a lot of speculation about bottle counts around 900 (makes me think they had at least two barrels of each base beer for blending), and that they in fact barrel aged each base beer, and blended to taste. Has anyone been able to confirm this (I think that would make this beer much better than just baller stout being thrown into some barrels)?

I'm very curious to see if it will live up to it's price. I know they are able to justify that price, so hopefully it will live up to expectations since the only other beer at that price point is BA DL.

    Cheers!

Curious exactly how they justified the price?

I seriously doubt anyone will plunk down a 50 spot and come in and be honest and tell us that it sucks.
reading early reviews of Bolt Cutter proves that.

BA Dark Lord on it's own was $50, compared to $15 for non-bal Dark Lord. With Baller Stout checking in at $30, I'm actually happily surprised this didn't cost more.

well you "open" it, give it all 5's and trade your other one that you got from the single bottle limit release.

Isn't the fact that it's limited & from Three Floyds special enough for you? How rude.

It's a FFF stout that contains Dark Lord. All the haters (I hate myself for using that phrase, but it's true) are going to come to play.

Not hatin' the playa, just hatin' the game.

I have no problem what so ever with FFF, their BA releases, or their prices. They can charge what they want, release what they want, and throw whatever they want in a barrel. I actually really enjoy FFF overall (minus a few popular beers I don't care for), I think the issue comes down to once the beers leave FFF and start popping up on trade forums.

I have had Baller twice, first time I thought it was bad, then I had it about a month ago and thought it significantly improved. I would love to see how it progressed in barrels, but I am guessing, just like the BA DLs, I most likely won't unless I am very fortunate at a tasting.

You mean like every other limited release beer nowadays? It's not a problem native to FFF.

I get that. My comment was more directed at comments on cost and the "FFF fans are sheep" comments.

I'm a FFF fan. shit, I drove out there last month just to hang and I have gone to DL day 3 times. It's a 9 hour drive for me.
That being said, DL is one of my least favorite beers they make and just because they charge a ridiculous $50 for the barrel aged version doesnt mean anything.
So many barrel aged beers blow it out of the water for 1/3 of the price or less.
They charge what they do because can, so sweet nectar or foul swampwater, people will buy it regardless.

    Have at it!
    Cheers!

I haven't had many BA beers better than BA DL. In fact, the only one's I've had were keg only/one-offs.

Just because you don't like Dark Lord doesn't mean that other people are "sheep" for liking it. That is my point. Bourbon Dark Lord happens to be one of my favorite beers, and my favorite imperial stout by a mile.

And why is charging what they can such a crime? As you agreed to earlier, I actually thought they could have charged more for BA Baller, yet they didn't push it.

    Kuhnnhenn's BA 4th D $7 per 12 oz - kills DL
All goose island variants less Bramble Destroy BA DL $12 22oz
BA Ten Fidy – total destruction - on tap locally. $7 a 12 oz glass
King Henry – the Ultimate Crusher $12 bucks

Just to name a few Barrel aged <750s that are superior.
Hell FFF makes better barrel aged beers than BA DL
Does that qualify as a myriad or dick move?

I actually thought the Vanilla DL in 2010 was pretty good.

Planning on splitting one soon. My review will be fair since I'll only have one (half, really) and don't need to boost the trade value of my non-existent stash.

Sorry, I meant to clarify BA RIS. But to be clear, the only variant that could beat BA DL is Rare BCS and Vanilla depending on the person. Brandy Vanilla, Bourbon Vanilla with a year on it (or fresh if you really like sweet BA RIS), and even Bourbon DL are all superior to literally every beer you listed save Rare and on a good day Vanilla.

Some beers I think beat BA DL in the BA RIS category, would be BA Abraxas (and w/ vanilla), Haymarket Clare's, AB Huna, and a whole slew of others.
