You would be surprised that some people take things like being asked to do a review as criticism. I have zero, zip, absolutely no clue if that is the case here. But in the years I hosted I received two unpleasant BM's from upset people I tried to kindly encourage to review the beer they were drinking. Judging by how many posts there were during my tenure it is statistically insignificant, but something IMO we all should think about if it leads to the thread being even more welcoming.

Just for clarification: Whatever form NBX has now, or might take in the future, I fully support.

Am I grumpy about the changes? Obviously.

Do I want the the thread to die a fiery, burning death, like I do Mayo? Most certainly not.

Will I keep posting in the thread. Yes. UNLESS! Some youngbloods find my Old Guy grumpiness too much. If my participation, which does include the (increasingly rare) snide, snarky, and sarcastic remark, actually drives folks away, then I'll step off.

I don't think we're at this point. The theme of this thread is vastly different from the theme of the weekly thread. This thread and poll was inherently going to bring out the extremes. Shrug.

But, IMHO, the actual thread has always been, and certainly remains, friendly, open and welcoming. I would most certainly be the first person to speak up to the person who was flipping shit to a new poster. Would I give New Poster suggestions, and maybe guidance? Sure, but would also encourage them to keep on.

The journey is fun, fulfilling, and interesting in ways I never saw coming. I'm sure it must be similar for others.

I suspect I'm one of the younger guys on BA and on this site and I always appreciate your posts on the NBS/NBW. I don't mind a bit of sarcasm, but Im from Jersey, so its second nature for me ... :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Exactly. Both NBS and NBW have their strengths and weaknesses. I like reading them both, but have never been a steady weekly participant in either. In truth I really don't care that much, but the personal stories and music did really allow for a better evocation of beer experience, life experience, and the person above the keys.

Oh, New Beer Sunday. There are many reasons, one of which is it's a day to relax.

I'm not pining for a return to NBS. In fact, I voted "no."

However, Todd asked, so I gave my views, opinions, and nostalgia.

Doing that is not "arguing", except perhaps to those who choose to make it seem so to themselves, for whatever reason.

As I said before, the attempt to crack down on OT conversations, etc., was the proximate cause of the change in "feel" for the thread, not the time extension to the whole weekend.

NBS started before smart phones. Sit-down in front of your laptop/desktop, and enjoy. More relaxed and intentional atmosphere.

Yup. Maybe that's the word we've all been looking for in describing the Old NBS, Relaxed.

I will ask the dumb question that just went thru my head. What, exactly, is the problem that needs fixing? Are we kinda

Obviously there a distribution of opinions ranging from I'm so pissed its changed and I'm not playing anymore to whatever the opposite of that is. Seems most people are in the middle. They may or may not like the changes, but are sticking it out regardless. At the end of the day, if somebody starts a thread, names it NBW, and a few other people participate it is still a thread. Is there nothing to "fix"? Would there be discussion about WBADYN if it was just a couple pages every day?

If the goal of the change was to drive participation and generate reviews, it apparently didn't work but its a small sampling. NBS had fallen off quite a bit before the change, so maybe the people who dropped off before the change could tell something.

I was also wondering like @Roguer and others whether this thread, the longer it goes, is doing more harm than good.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I can't help to notice that participating in this thread seemed a bit therapeutic for some, which I can appreciate given the thread's history, but it's clear that 54% of those who voted are OK with keeping it as New Beer Weekend for now. And this past NBW had a great vibe and did very well. So thanks to everyone for that too.

    Onward...
