Not to mention the long lingering legs that coat the glass is a subtle 'beaver pelt' brown hue.

Many beers age worse in larger formats.
Chimay for example. The capped 11.2oz bottles age best.

Not to go completely off subject here but why's that? It was my understanding that larger the format better the aging capabilities wether it be wine or beer.

Not RR, but if someone wants a 3L bottle of New Holland Envious, or Dragons Milk I have the hook up. LOL crazy large bottles. They look pretty funny

I believe that's one of those things that people just say without really thinking about it. One common justification is that there's a smaller amount of oxygen trapped in the headspace, but that will obviously vary considerably. My guess is that there are so many other factors in play that you'd never be able to discern a consistent difference between formats.

This is probably something that's more lore than studied fact even in the wine world. But, the evolution of a bottle-conditioned beer is a completely different process than a filtered wine and there's no reason anyone should think the same rules apply.

Damn, Rare is something I was going to look for the next time I have a chance to grab a 3L. I live by RR, so even though I usually miss them it's just a matter of time before I get another. If anyone has 3 Rares they want to trade for one just let me know now.

I really wanted a 3L supplication because of the "oh snap, it's a fucking 3L of supplication!" factor. I tried trading for one once, and I quickly realized that I did not want to give up what I'd need to give up. Then, a regular trade partner sent me one as a surprise. Two lessons: 1) get regular trade partners, and 2) it's a fucking 3L of supplication!

I plan to open it with lots of friends to celebrate some big life milestone that I will no doubt achieve at some point in the next couple of years...birth of first child, getting the dream job offer, landing a 3L supplication, etc.

Pretty sure this exact thread is going to come up when the 3L Temptation comes out. Should be early next year. I would have loved to keep mine but had no use for them. They are amazing bottles, look way cool and it doesnt hurt when you share with like 20 people because theres always so much more. I forgot who i sent my Supplication to but that is a great sour in a large format beer...matter of fact...I WANT IT BACK!

My future wife wanted a 3L Supplication for our upcoming wedding and thankfully someone I had traded with in the past reached out to me. We made a very fair deal on both ends that expanded a bit beyond the 3L alone. He disclosed the details of that one in the last "why are 3L walez?!" thread. Sounds like we'll be setting up another trade after Kuhnhenn solstice as well.

It's all just about finding the right people. Not everyone wants 3 Rares for a 3L.

I was lucky enough to have two for my wedding, and it was SO MUCH COOLER having 2 giant 3L bottles to pop open then 16x 375mls. It also made for some friggin' awesome pictures.

I heard a semi-confirmed rumor that Temptation 3Ls will not be going on sale this time around and that they will be sold to staff only since they never get the opportunity to buy them.

If this turns out to be the case, I will be SO SAD because Temptation is my favorite. (Besides Beat, obviously, I would do awful things to get a 3L of beat...)
