Counterweight answers with a 3.8 of their own. I’m digging the trend.

I think it's worth picking up at least a couple cans of each of the ones you mentioned. I know I've enjoyed each of them, and have shared each of them with several other BAs across the country to good reviews. Despite Tiddly having been canned in mid-March, I'd still grab a couple cans. It's very, very drinkable (others I've sent it to have loved it)

All that said, of everything you asked about, Varonna (Norwegian Farmhouse) is the standout for me. I absolutely love that beer. Hard to go wrong with the other bottled offerings either, but I would definitely give Varonna a try. One of the advantages of being on site is that hopefully you'll be able to try a couple of these on tap to help influence your "to go" decisions.

The FF trip is taking place one week before we leave for our annual Cape Cod vacation, so there will be some level of "loading up." A case doesn't go very far with the idiots in our group of friends we meet down there yearly, but it's a good start. Probably mix up a case between the lagers and English styles, and grab some bottles for the saison stash down in the cellar beer fridge.

I was at Fox Farm yesterday and had pours of Xenia, Stet, and Welly. All three were delicious. Happy to get some of Pip, the blonde ale, the kellerbier, and some bottles to go.

“The initial seed of inspiration for this beer was planted by our friend Farmer Digga of Hunts Brook Farm (Waterford, CT). His resourcefulness and curiosity have made a mark on several of our beers and when he encouraged us to pursue this one (generously providing the stinging nettles themselves) we knew to take it seriously. There’s a long, humble history, particularly in Britain and Ireland, of putting nettles to culinary use - including in the small batch production of a refreshing fermented beverage. Complimenting the lively nature of the plant we added fresh ginger from Wellstone Farm (Higganum, CT) and fresh yuzu from Bhumi Growers (Florence, NJ) - two equally passionate, knowledgeable, and uncompromising farmers. The result is a bright and herbal summertime quencher - effervescent both figuratively and literally.”

Amazingly I haven’t had a solitary beer from my FF haul last weekend. Tonight, maybe, is time to change this

I call beers like this "Christmas Beers." I don't drink much over 6% during the rest of the year, so I load up on big stouts and porters when I can and plan to drink them when the frost is accumulating on the windows, the heat is cranking, and the Bing Crosby is rocking.

They’re already, unfortunately, out of it. I was lucky enough to try a can and it’s an unbelievable beer.

Does anyone have any recommendations for lodging near fox farm? I’m planning a trip up that way around July 10. Hotel prices seem astronomical for that date - possibly because it’s near the casinos and it’s the heart of the summer. Not many AirBNBs left either. I’m just looking for a budget place that’s clean and safe/not shady. I made the mistake of going with the cheapest of the cheap hotels when visiting Boston one year on a trillium/treehouse trip and ended up in a place where I semi-feared for my life. I’m seeing lots of lodging in Groton. Anyone know how that town is in general? Or have any other recommended hubs near Salem? Not sure if it’s unrealistic but was hoping to spend max $150 for a night. Bringing along my 3 year old son and pregnant wife. Thanks in advance

I have stayed at the Sleep Inn in Niantic. Its about a 15 minute drive to FF. No complaints and likely going to be staying there again at the end of August on my way to the Cape.

Sorry to derail, but this reminds me of something that I did years and years ago when I had to stay overnight in Philly. I found that hotels across the bridge in Camden were much cheaper, and as a barely out of college kid I went with that. I didn't know about Camden's reputation before then, but I sure as hell know it now.

right. Had a similar experience in Baltimore too. It was Basically a prostitute house. You get what you pay for I guess. Live and learn.

Groton is a dump. If you do stay in the area be sure to go to Beer’d.
