:sweat_smile:probably just about any NEIPA, fruited beer of any kind, or stout, especially BA or with certain adjuncts and it more than likely fits the bill. The higher the alcohol, the higher the calories. The more adjuncts, the higher the calories. For the sake of an example:https://www.calorieking.com/us/en/f...-imperial-stout-99-alc/L5x8huQ2S3ilEahp6wvpug
    https://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/haze-ipa-8-2-724831066
And there’s many others. My estimate may have been very slightly high but the point stands, anyone drinking any good amount of high gravity crafts in a single sitting can very quickly come to an entire days worth of allotted calories in beer alone.

I try 3-4 mediocre, overpriced IPA's for every one that is worth buying again (what I call a "keeper"). And that is from the breweries I trust and respect. The others are much, much worse.

I don't mind playing that lottery with Belgian quads, German weizens, and other beer styles I like... because those 3-4 mediocre, expensive beers help me discover a "keeper" that I can (and often do) buy again.

But when you can't ever get the "keeper" beer again, it is basically the same as buying a stupidly-expensive mix 4-pack where 3 of the beers aren't good. No thanks. A mediocre IPA is still mediocre.

My seeming inability to develop appreciation for many of the hoppy styles that tend to be described with glowing and flavorful descriptions.

There was a time when I lamented that more and more of those were being made, claiming shelf space, taps, and production capacity from other beers I was capable of enjoying. Sours catching on has ameliorated that to a large degree, however, and I'm rather appreciative of that.

This is probably a "get off my lawn" moment..But I am annoyed/troubled that so any beers are loaded with lactose, puree, or otherwise hazy. I saw an upcoming release of a fruited sour with double mango, double pineapple, double cherry, NERDS candy, and a couple other things.

I think there is a very valid argument that these hype slushy/fruited out beers are not even beer anymore but should be called malted alcoholic beverages.

I guess I'm just Old Man River finding myself wanting just a simple beer.

The premise of her wanting to open it was so I could remove some or all of the liquid to get under the limit, which made no sense, since I had said it was a gift (cold brew). She just wanted to see what was in it. I said that I'd need to get them another present, repack, and mail another day. So I said cancel it, grabbed my package, and she refunded. I repacked it to be quieter and shipped at another UPS store.

My biggest annoyance is the lack of traditional, unadulterated styles. From my perspective, when you condition a stout on candy it is no longer a beer; it is an alcoholic soft drink. But then I was introduced to beer in the UK, so I'm a bit conservative on the subject.

Jack's Abby nails it for traditional lagers and for experimentation within the bounds of the styles. And their pricing has allowed me to get back into the craft beer scene after many years of being unable to afford it.

I'd love to find the same for ales. A brewery with reasonably priced bitters, milds, porters, stouts, old ales, strong English ales, and wee heavies as standard offerings would be awesome. Especially if they haven't been sitting unrefrigerated on the shelf of my local for the past six months...

Edit: Had this sitting in draft too long and ChangSing beat me to some of my points.

Wow these are some great responses. I would agree with all of the said above. To summarize: Old beer on the shelf, lack of variety, too many NEIPAs, lack of refrigeration, lack of canning dates, SBDL, pricey local craft beers, ...and my pet peeve is inability to buy singles. I want to try your new $4.99+ IPA before I buy 4 of them.

The dating on cans/bottles. Many now date but so many make it so hard to read a simple date ,smeared, wrong color, to small or crunched so close that i cant read it. Show us the date make it legible.

    Can’t complain to much, but...
There seems to be a grinding sameness in the beers now available in my local grocery stores and bottle shops. This was not the case a couple years back when it was actually fun to go to the local grocery store to see what new beers or old seasonal friends had arrived.

I find myself relying more on local breweries and road trips to add interest to my beers.

That’s one persons opinions. There’s plenty of people who disagree which is what makes the NEIPA a much more popular brew than a quad. The biggest, most hyped breweries in America aren’t getting rich off quads. I’m not saying I agree or disagree with anything you said, I’m just getting it down to brass tacks. Maybe what you’re really annoyed with isn’t the beer but the hype that surrounds them? Cheers!

Too many beers unavailable for sale as singles at retailers and I'll be damned if I am going to invest $15-20 for a 4pk of something I just want to try, and then possible be disappointed in. Also, if the beer gets that pricy, it should be sold from refrigerated cases, not on open shelves.

There is a brewery nearby that makes two great NEIPA, a regular and a double. They were one of the first in the state that was able to widely distribute a worthy beer in the style. The regular is the one that many use to compare new beers. This brewery makes a few other really good beers and a number of solid ones over a range of styles. A number of newer breweries are releasing these Same Beer Different Label NEIPA and fruited sours seemingly every week. As far as NEIPA go a limited number are as good or better (and if better, only marginally) than the NEIPA from the first brewery. All are more expensive and have limited distribution. Most if not all have a more limited life. Maybe its the beer or the breweries that annoy me. Maybe its the hype that surrounds them that I found annoying. I would rather drink a beer that is constantly great, less expensive, easier to get, and maintains its freshness over a new label that will miss the mark on at least one of those things.
