Oh, and don't go by the ratings -- they're skewed by raters who don't appreciate a good Pils or got old stock.

I guess I’ll have to. I don’t tend to shop at Aldi but for that price maybe I’ll have to start.

There's a Wernesgruner Dark that shows up now and again, too -- it's pretty good as well, but be careful what you pick up because the packaging is near identical!

Always a bit jarring to think you're pouring a Pils and a Dunkel fills your glass!

The barley grower, the maltster, the noble hopster(?) the brewer, the whole dang fatherland, all of them rascals. Yoomans, in other words.

Uh, I think we're talking about 2 different breweries here. The jokes about "born on dates" were directed at Bud, not Spaten.

Let's not go dissing German brewers now.

I know. I took the familial stuff a bit over the edge. I'll never speak poorly of German brewing. I love(d) the old Lowenbrau dearly....It is where I cut my beer teeth, so to speak.

That's where all the fun-poking started if you follow the quotes.

Well.... they're kinda fair game once they sell out (even partially) to Interbrew / InBev / ABInBev,

Oh, I know all about selling out -- but I've been happily surprised at the standing quality Spaten has kept up... if not availability.

Well, maybe that's 'cause the bean counters and marketing geniuses are all busy doing seltzers?

I wonder if some regions still have distributor disputes over the brand - AB house vs. a local rival distributor which had the contract with the old Spaten North America importer?

Seltzers are likely cheap to make and they were not started in 1586 or so.

    Quotes from the link:
I feel like a blockhead because I'm not even sure what the above means exactly. What is it that they are doing in that comment... acting as the distributor or importer for Corona and Leffe in Germany? Why mention only two brands?
If the "purity law" provides Germans a definition of what can be called beer in their market, then they shouldn't even be referring to Corona and Leffe as "beer." Both are brewed with corn.

Supposedly they're already outselling "craft" beer as a percentage of the overall beer market, too :astonished:. From Beer Marketer Insights weekly newsletter:
Yeah, confusing. It'd make more sense to phrase it:
...though that's still not clear if the beers are brewed in their German breweries or not. I guess they only mention the two because Corona is one of their "Global Brands" (along with Budweiser and Stella Artois) and Leffe......still has a good rep in Germany?

Daily we pick up varied seltzer cans in the park. I think there are direct correlations between age, habit and littering. But that's another story. I haven't seen a decent piece of "good" craft litter in some time. And I am an inveterate collector of "things". Arrowheads are more common than historical Pete's Wicked bottles!

There is nothing stopping ABInbev from reformulating anything into an all malt product -- or maybe into a weizen? -- then using their magic to make it taste like it has adjuncts. Apparently this has occurred for Corona:

Their US domestically-brewed Stella Artois that's just hitting the shelves deletes the "maize" that the recipe traditionally had - at least, according to the PR and AB's Tap Into Your Beer S.A. listing.
