I had a discussion with a few of my pals about this so i decided to see what others thought.

For me it would be Long Trails Double Bag. I just cant get my palate to agree with it. To me it tastes like old tomato juice mixed with alcohol. Its an automatic drain pour for me.

What Beers do you have the same opinion on?

I like a chocolate stout from time to time, but Southern Tier Choklat gets a pour down the drain every time. Such a sticky mess of a beer. I could pour a couple of shots of whiskey into a bottle of Hershey's syrup and have the same thing. I've given it multiple chances, and still don't understand why this beer has the ratings it gets.

You get a whiskey character in Choklat? I can't say the same.

In before "Southern Tier", "Blackwater Series", or simply "Pumking". You may want to stipulate that people who don't like a particular style shouldn't comment on a beer from that style, otherwise you're going to get a bunch of people that don't like Belgians saying "Rochefort 10 sucks" or people that don't like IPAs saying "90 Minute IPA sucks".

I'm not crazy about Founders Harvest Ale. For me, Broo Doo from FFF and Wet from Surly were much better examples of the style. All four SN wet-hopped options (Southern and Northern Hemisphere Harvest, Estate, and Celebration) are all better, too.

EDIT: WYVYRN527, you bastard, you beat me to Blackwater...

    EDIT 2: I guess I cheated a bit. I haven't had a highly-rated beer (to me, 85+) that I can't stand. I just picked a beer that is highly-rated that I found mediocre.

No whiskey. I could have used any spirit in my context. It was the first thing that came to my mind. No barrel character whatsoever. I should have said vodka and club soda with Hershey Syrup.

Stone Belgo Anise IRS, assuming you think 80 qualifies as "well graded."

    Alpha Klaus.

I always get some weird burnt rubber thing from it. I think it's a combo of the malts/hops that just doesn't sit well with me.

Have you tried sitting on Choklat for a year or so? Perhaps that would make it more palatable. Otherwise, by this point, I've just come to terms with the fact that many BAs hate Southern Tier's Blackwater Series + Pumking.

I have, and I still cannot stand it. Pumking I can handle in very small amounts. I will definitely agree with you when it comes to the Blackwater Series, though.

To each their own. I'm a huge Blackwater fan. More for me!

Cheers! (You can have something other than ST BW in your imaginary glass.)

So far Consecration has been the only highly rated beer I did not enjoy. I haven't tried any other wild ales yet, but I assume I just don't like the style.

Do you also dislike hopped-up stouts and porters?

    Nope. Just this one.

I guess it's not that "I can't stand it", it just doesn't really float my boat.

Include me among the Pumking haters. Also, I hate the aroma of honey in my beer, so Mikkeller Black Hole was undrinkable for me, as well as Hopslam -- at least on those years when its honey is assertive (3 years ago, this was a problem).

I'm in your boat (so far). I've had a few sours, and it would have been incredibly easy to just throw out a random, highly-rated sour that I've had; that's why I avoided saying a sour.
