FWIW -- since I made that post I was able to try Dovetail's Helles on draft and found it outstanding.

However... Dovetail has two Helles beers they produce, and the one on tap wasn't the same as the can I sampled. Confusing, I know.

I don't recall ever seeing decent info on how to determine the age of Reissdorf in the US. Let us know if you learn something.

Nah. I'm going to go with best by February 10th 2022 despite the Europeans usually using day-month-year. Taste is pretty fresh with a tinge of a metallic taste.

Based on looking at other Reissdorf values, seems they are using LYYDDD packaged on date. So yours (L21022) would appear to have been packaged on January 22, 2021.

Does the "L" carry any meaning?

    Cheers!

None that I can tell. The 'L' is present on prior years as well. e.g., L20254 L19004

Yeah, that's my other guess and that's also acceptable for me. Thanks.

I'm guessing that wouldn't be right based on the number of digits (month would likely have 2 digits)... and I'd be surprised to see a code for "best by" rather than "packaged on"...
... but this could be right. It's the same as one theory in the German date code thread based on the codes posted there, and it could be the answer for cans (but if correct, it appears bottles use a different code). @Jaycase , you should post this in that thread.

[IMG] I don’t know if it sounds stupid or not, but this is the best Maibock I’ve had to date. Some American versions don’t even touch this. I wasn’t even quite sure this is how it was supposed to taste. One of the few imports I’ve gotten this far that was actually bottled in ‘21. Cheers.

I really enjoyed it too, on top of its great taste and mouthfeel I remember it having such an awesome color to it. The best time for German beers is slowly approaching. All the Oktoberfest beers that come will all be brewed in ‘21. Unless a store is trying to play tricks and sell last years stock, I wouldn’t put it past some places around here…looking at you total wine.

Every once in a while the bread falls butter side up! Cheers to that!!

My favorite German brewed Maibock is from Ayinger but I have only seen that beer on tap and then only rarely.

    Cheers to fresh(er) German Maibocks!!

No worries there for me when it comes to my favorite Oktoberfest beer (Sly Fox) since those beers are all sold out by the end of October. I remembered to stock up last year and I drank my last cans at Christmastime. :beers:

    Cheers!

It's a great Maibock, if not a little more robust than most others of the style. But you shouldn't let that deter you from trying others.

One of the best in the U.S. is from Milwaukee's Lakefront Brewery. Not sure if it's sold in Michigan, but worth looking for.

I called out old stock at a local Binny's a couple years ago -- they contacted the distro and had it replaced quickly!

Trouble is, I also pointed it out at another Binny's just a day before and they shrugged their shoulders. Stay on 'em.

I was recently informed their first store in the state was opened in GR. Thanks to @PapaGoose03. Im not sure if any of us has been there just yet but I would appreciate feedback as soon as anyone does.
