Someone favorably compared Baby Genius to Eureka in another thread NE thread. While good, it’s not in the same league as Eureka, at least in my opinion. Canned 7/15/21.

Another beer that gets better when not super fresh.

Schilling, Severní, Czech-style Amber Lager, canned 7/1/21.

Buddy snagged me this and the Birra Portico from earlier when he was vacationing in NH a couple of weeks back.

“Brewed with Triple Crossing (Richmond, VA), this “half-dark” Czech-style lager features Moravian Floor Malted Pilsner malt from the Haná region of the Czech Republic. It’s hopped with aromatic Czech Saaz and Bohemie hops, decocted for a vibrant, complex malt character, and fermented with a traditional Czech yeast. A clear, pale, copper-colored lager that pours with a dense white foam, Severní displays balanced aromas of toasted bread, floral hops, and light yeast expression. Toasted malts, clover honey, and delicate caramel notes kiss the palate without excessive sweetness. The finish is surprisingly dry and refreshing. Served on draught via Czech-made Lukr faucets and available in 4-packs to-go.”

Last beer for me this evening is this modern saison from Amory’s Tomb. Featuring Blue ox yankee pils, wheat, and munich malts, as well as flaked oats, saaz, wai-iti, and motueka hops. Nice beer!

I'm digging this. It's floral and a bit sweet, but has a big fruit finish.

    My night ender…

Tree House, Double Shot Cold Brew

“Double Shot Cold Brew is a special rendition of Double Shot deriving all of its coffee character from house-roasted and house-extracted cold brew concentrate. Though the intensity of coffee character has never been more potent, a robust base beer results in perfect balance and flavor saturation. We taste and smell chocolate-covered espresso beans, ristretto, and chocolatey cold brew in this decadent and savor-worthy concoction. Enjoy with biscotti or any other breakfast pastry!”

What were your thoughts on it? Triple Crossing is amazing.

I thought it was fine. Mouthfeel, pretty prickly. Found the finish to be a bit sharp. Flavor, not much depth.

Honestly, surprised me with how it was fairly pedestrian. I didn’t necessarily have expectations, but schilling rarely disappoints me and I didn’t have an experience with Triple Crossing.

Comparing it to something like Notch Polotmavy in my experience, not even close.

Back to a New England brew after several PA treats. Ive had this one in the cellar for about 8 weeks. Its time to see what is inside the aluminum!

    Onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer was purchased at a local beer shop. Date stamp is 12/18/2020....I think, its a little blurry. Also label has canned in Oxford, CT. Is this done at Black Hog?
The beer pours a dark chocolate or cola brown color with a fluffy beige head of 3.5 cm foaming up. I did a sort of aggressive pour, so could be on me. The foam fades to a sturdy surface layer of about .5 cm and I get dense clingy lattice when I swirl the glass.
The aroma on this brew is dark chocolate, a little bit of anise, which is good, as too much of this can ruin a beer for me. There are also scents of roasted malt and some very light char notes. Much more of a roasty dark malt imp stout than a sweet brown sugary one. Not any dark fruits, not any hop character, and the ABV doesnt show through on the nose either.
the first sip reveals a medium body and soft rolling carbonation. A bit of a sticky texture but generally this beer drinks smooth and easy for such a big bruiser on the ABV (10.3%)
Flavor is similar to the nose, I get a little bit of chocolate note up front and its briefly sweeter, then rolls to roasted malts and a bit of molasses. I also get some charred wood on the finish and this lingers a bit after the swallow. No hop character and again booze is well hidden. Quite a nice, non adjunct Imperial Stout.
Im pretty happy with this purchase and would buy again if I see the cans. Hadnt seem them before this pickup.

A well earned beer after working 56 of the last 80 hours of my life. A buddy gave me a mixed 4-pack of some District 96 and, albeit a bit old, still very delightful, still some juice and going down easy. Cheers!
