Yes DB VSOJ Cherry Rye was perfection! Easily best Rev beer I have ever had. Would love for that to be canned or on draft again.

I chatted with the (always excellent) taproom staff, asking about my beloved Deep Woods Mystery Bags...they are gone. They simply ran out of the older vintages of cans, it seems.

    R.I.P.

Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't think brewers set out to age things for 2 years with the intent to add adjuncts. I would think it would be more to balance out flaws in a beer that didn't age as expected in that 2nd year.

The Revolution Beer Calendar has been updated, with seven new or returning offerings!!!
    • Deth's Tar (19.2 ounce)
    • Deth's Tar
    • Cafe Deth
    • Deth by Raspberries
    • Straight Jacket
    • Vanilla Deth
    • Blackberry Finn
    • Ryeway to Heaven
    • Maple Jacket
    • Dark Mode
    • Gravedigger Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • V. S. O. R!!!!
Deth by Raspberries: 11.0% This all-too-drinkable fruited spin on Deth's Tar is equally at home in any setting. Aromas of roasted malt, American oak, bourbon, and fresh raspberry flesh emerge from the glass like a group hug for the nose while the palate is treated to a gentle sweetness and incisive acidity. Enjoy now or store cold.

Vanilla Deth: 13.6% Behold, our original Barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Deth’s Tar, with hand-split whole vanilla beans. Flaked and malted oats lend a supremely silky body that belies the beer’s considerable strength. Pronounced vanilla flavor and aroma blends harmoniously with chocolatey caramel maltiness and blend of American & French oak. Enjoy now or store cold.

Blackberry Finn: (ABV not available) This bemusing, bepurpled curiosity is the result of blending double bourbon barrel-aged dry English Barleywine and an intrepid volume of unfermented blackberries. Restrained malt sweetness, hefty tannins, vanilla-laden American oak, and sweet, tart blackberry combine to make an “extreme” beer which retains a decidedly playful accessibility. Enjoy now or store cold.

Maple Jacket: 14.4 % This dry English Barleywine rested for one year in freshly emptied maple syrup bourbon barrels before being sweetened with that same syrup just prior to packaging. Subtle maple aromatics and flavor complement the classic vanilla and toffee notes we’ve come to expect without detriment to balance. Enjoy now or store cold.

Dark Mode: 13.8% A blend of chocolate malt, traditional roasted barley, and debittered black malt lend this Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Milk Stout its nebulous, void-like hue without harsh, detracting astringency to make your mouth sad. Golden oats enhance body while a dash of applewood smoked malt provides the gentlest expression of smoldering depth. Go dark now or store cold.

Gravedigger Billy: 14.2% An old favorite from the early days of Revolution makes a return. This Bourbon Barrel-aged Scotch Ale, decked out in a fine tartan kilt, has a delicate smokiness alongside American oak and bourbon character. Pour a wee dram and let the brogue fly. Don’t be daft, enjoy now or store cold.

    V. S. O. R: 15.4% Owing to two years in premium rye whiskey barrels, this slightly sweeter blend of our Ryewine oozes with malt-derived complexities reminiscent of maple alongside enough oak to build a bedroom set. With a grist composed of over sixty percent rye, Very Special Old Ryeway is deceptively balanced given its massive body. Enjoy now or store cold.

Blackberry Finn was awesome it’s one and only appearance!

And what appears to be a new and improved Very Mad Cow is more than welcome.

Maple Jacket is no surprise, spied barrels last year in the racks during the VIP Deth party. Those barrels must have been buried deep back recently.

Kind of a relief, as there’s more than a few I’ll only want a single 4pack of. Super excited about VSOR, Finn, and Maple Jacket though.

Very mixed feelings on the stovepipes of deth’s tar, as I feel the 12 ounce cans are what sets the lineup apart. It’s a very accessible, and to me, perfect size.

Me too. Check out that label though. Pretty damn cool. I wonder what's up here. Different label than standard DT and in a format they've never used...

Dark Mode is also a sexy looking can.

Went and ate at the brew pub with my family today to burn some Rev Rewards. Then swung by to pick up my VSOJ and Supermassive. Pro experience as always on all fronts. Had a taster of VSOJ with lunch and it was really damn good.

12 oz is the perfect size for a BA beer. It's a fact. According to the Trib guy, the stovepipes are augmenting, not replacing the 12oz 4 pks. My one concern with this is Deth's Tar sold out relatively quickly @ Rev last year (for DT it was very fast). I think some of this was the 'money barrel' talk (my goodness, I hope this year is all 'money' barrels). Sure, distro at certain stores probably hung around but I'm just speaking about direct Rev sales. I just hope the stovepipes are not eating too much into the 12 oz cans cuz I ain't buying any of 'em (sorry, Rev) but I will be stocking up on the 12 oz' cans. Will then be drinking them while pondering VSOD & DBVSOD's return in 2022.

I've drank several Deep Woods crowlers in the last year.

I'll scoop up those stovepipes for you.

Correction: 12 oz is the perfect size for a BA beer for us mere mortals.

I took down a few crowlers myself (oh how I loved Destroyed By the Empire), and often enough drink 2-3 DW cans. I just like the flexibility of the 12oz format.

    Dark Mode is intriguing
Blackberry Finn and Maple Jacket look to be very interesting.
Excited for Vanilla Deth with a much better base.
Really warmed up to Gravedigger Billy last go around and am actually looking forward to it this time

I'm confused by this, especially as someone who really liked the first version.

Do you just happen to think the first version had a shitty "base" and are assuming this one will be better? Or do you have some insider knowledge?

    Please explain.
