Henninger is THE beer of Frankfurt. Bought it by case way back when. Didn't know it was in the US, who is the importer?

    Ah, happy NBS!
I left yesterday’s non-alcoholic beers there, quite enough of that. But this one is only 4.3% so still not pushing any envelopes.
I will state that the can caught my eye, so to speak, and rather glad it did.
So many IPAs of late have been brewing experiments it seems, so a straightforward, Citra hopped IPA was a pleasant change.
Nothing fancy or new, just a well done beer that scratches that clean-IPA Itch. Citra is the only hop listed so it is quite one dimensional, but as it was stated earlier, “this has its place”.
    Cheers all!

    New Beer #2 this Sunday
I wish this would have made it to Indiana sooner, but it was still an instant buy when I spotted a four pack in the cooler today...
    Fatheads I-B-Usive
16 ounce canned 06/14/21 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 7.5% ABV 90 IBU. The beer pours bright golden amber in color with prolific khaki colored head. The head recedes to tight half inch cap and leaves streaks of lacing covering the glass. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring candied orange, pine, and ripe tropical fruit. The taste is semisweet caramel with immediate strong bitterness before flavors of citrus, pine and tropical fruit salad pop through with a heavy dank profile throughout. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, excellent.

I think this is an excellent candidate for the make your own black IPA thread. That will probably happen this week. Otherwise, it's a wonderful throw back to what I consider IPAs to be. Cheers all!

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. For this afternoon's review I've opened the last new-to-me beer from my trip to North Carolina earlier this week: Universal Mind, a NEIPA DDH with Citra, from Resident Culture Brewing Company in Charlotte. This is my first offering from Resident Culture and it was recommended by the clerk at Sam's Bottle Shop in Durham, which is a great place to purchase local beer.

If I had only purchased Universal Mind, then I would probably be more impressed but I also bought two fresh packs of Citraquench'l which is simply a much better Citra-hopped NEIPA. Sadly, Universal Mind suffers by comparison. It's rather one-dimensional and lacks the tropical notes that Heist coaxed from the Citra hops.

No discernible canning date. Poured from 16 oz. can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, honey-orange color with a substantial, foamy, eggshell-colored head and thick, soapy lacing. It smells of lemon, grapefruit, lime, pineapple, and floral hops. The taste favors the tart citrus but there is a hint of oaty sweetness in the background. I'm really not tasting the tropical fruit indicated by the smell. The mouth feel is moderately creamy with pleasant carbonation and the 6.5% ABV is not a distraction. Overall, it's a solid New England IPA but I was hoping for a bit more than that.

Second and final planned pour here, this one via a living, breathing cask.

    Dithering Bitter

    Brewery Notes:
4.1% ABV, 35 IBU. $6 16 oz. nonic glass cask pour.Yorkshire Best Bitter served on Cask.

Appearance: Once the pour settles, bronze ruby clear pour, creamy egg white head lingers, leaves generous creamy lacing throughout. 4.0

    Aroma:
Faint malt bread aroma, leans sweet. 3.0

    Taste:
Consistent with the aroma, caramel, lightly sweet pumpernickel bread. 2.75

    Mouthfeel:
Very rich creamy, full body cask offering. Neutral taste profile, very light and easy drinking and finish. 3.75

    Overall:
Slightly below average cask offering. Faint caramel malt, looks and feels good. 3.0

Likely saving the beers at home planned for this weekend until next week. I’ll try this brewery again, but was just a meh experience first time out. Look forward to catching up with the thread later this weekend.

    Cheers!

Sounds like the Art History CAP would have benefited from more generous amounts of flavor/aroma hops.

The importer is Radeberger Gruppe USA, Norwalk, CT 06851. I just noticed it a couple of months ago down here in the Florida Panhandle.

Well, once again, my shitty WiFi is preventing me from uploading a pic. So for now, take my word for it, and I'll upload the pic when it decides to play ball.

My third new beer this weekend is yet another stout (3 for 3): 50/50 2017 Eclipse Vanilla.

The previous Eclipse variant I reviewed was just last week, and it was the Cognac barrel from 2016. (3.95 / -6.8%) It was a gusher, and super oaky, but ultimately still very good.

This one has aged superbly. Yes, the vanilla and the bourbon have both surely faded, but the oak isn't overly dull and woody, and any aggressive bitterness and booziness have similarly faded. I think it would easily hold up another year or two and still be delightful.

The vanilla does still come across very nicely, along with balanced roastiness and toastiness from the malt. The bourbon is still present, just more oak than mash, but it's still pleasant. Caramel, molasses, and espresso round out the profile.

This one is a real winner. Hard to say Eclipse is ever worth the price, but if you're trying out the variants, this one is worthy.

New Province Brewing Co. Leap of Faith Saison, 4.7% ABV; 3.83 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with fast falling cream colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

    S: Apples, pears, white grapes

T: Follows the nose, much oaky dryness up front. So much oaky dryness as this warms, plus golden delicious apple & tart/acidic white grapes. Finishes dry with plenty of white wine character

    MF: Light body, lively carbonation

Doesn't tick all the boxes for the style, more yeast presence is needed. Drinks fairly easy, but not a style that needs to be in can IMHO

Greetings All from the Great Northwest where it's just another Summer Sunday. 96 degrees.

Today we have Sunny Si from historic Snoqualmie Falls. Named for a mountain just outside of town. Pronounced like the word "sigh" not the Spanish word for "yes."
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/859/188076/

A fruity beer and very seasonable.

I used to visit the Snoqualmie Falls Brewery occasionally when I went to the Seattle area on business. It's been a while, but they still brew nice beer. Glad to find it in cans.

    Until next time,

    Hey NBW
    [IMG]
I’m having this for the first time
Poured from a can dated 7/6/21

Sparkling slightly translucent yellow small soapy quickly dissipating head, thin veil
Aroma is a bit like skunk grass pot, melon notes, a hint of floral and citrus
Taste is slightly resinous with citrus rind, grapefruit and malt
Mouthfeel is sticky, astringent and mildly bitter, low carbonation. There is a lingering bitter grapefruit like finish
Overall it has a west coast feel with a tick of NE citrus. Pretty decent AIPA

    Hey NBW whats up?
Made a CT last week for my NEBCO fix and picked this up from a brewery I never heard of.
Tox Brewing Angels Trumpet DDH DIPA
Pours a turbid golden orange with a large off white frothy head that has good retention finally settling to a thin cap with lots of sticky lacing.
Aroma is lots of overipe tropical fruits; mango, pineapple, passionfruit. Very dank cannabis, diesel, orange, cat pee
Taste follows with heavy tropicals, a bit of dark berries, sweet orange, grapefruit pith and pine bitterness, resinous - just short of teeth stickiness.
Body is medium/full, mild alcohol presence, hop resins coat tongue, finishes fairly bitter.
Pretty decent beer if you need a massive hop charge. They didnt hold back on this one. I would try another of their offerings based on the quality of this beer....for hop heads
    Cheers![IMG]

The taste is bittersweet chocolate with additional notes of both bourbon and charred barrel. Medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good.

Picked this up today along with a couple of other Transient hop bombs, this collab with Burn ‘Em Brewing out of Michigan City is Transient’s first non-hazy (or WCIPA if you prefer). More, please.

Pours a ever so slightly hazy golden color with a creamy egg shell colored head that laces the glass like Velcro. Very nice citrus notes (primarily tangerine) and resiny pine notes on the nose. This is not your father’s Transient IPA.

The tangerine flavor is forward, with the resiny pine flavor providing a nice bitterness, and there’s a subtle caramalt flavor on the finish. Absolutely delicious.

The mouthfeel is crisp and very dry, in the WCIPA (or MWCIPA, per the can) style. I hope Transient ventures further out into this style, instead of focusing solely on the hazies, because they nailed this, IMHO.
