Buy in bulk and check for rebates! Sierra Nevada has one going on right now ($5 off a 12 pack til 7/31), Goose Island & Blue Point usually have some rebate options too.

Agree about the “plus size” cans for good value. I was at the beer store just last night with intentions of finding a 6er to take home. Checked out all of the stock on the floor and fridges over 15 minutes, but walked out with a 20oz can of Golden Monkey and a 20oz can of New Belgian Hazy Voodoo Ranger and only spent $7 I think for both.

Yeah, stuff like that is pretty cool too. You get some variety to mix things up by only adding $2 to 3 to your basket. Just last weekend I picked up some Dale's Pale Ale for that reason. The big Guinness Extra Stout bottles are pretty cool to add also.

For the cheapie industrial beers I'm enjoying Presidente these days. Next up I might do a Corona vs Modelo tasting just for fun, but not expecting too much out of either.

Michael, I look forward to reading about your side-by-side taste test here.

I have an opinion about which beer will be 'better' but I hope to read your thoughts here.

    Cheers!

One of these things is not like the other.

There's reasons shitty beers are cheap.

In early July I did one with a few beers that I appropriated out of a party cooler, one of which was Corona Extra. It was honestly closer to seltzer than beer for me , but at least it didn't have any weird flavors, so who knows .

My last purchase of Corona Extra was 2017 as part of participating in a thread: Online Beer Tasting: AALs on June 3, 2017. In order to eliminate the possibility of skunking I chose to purchase a can (a single BIG can).

Since I had so much of that beer I asked my wife if she would like half. A funny story:

“I split the 24 ounce can of Corona with my wife. Her first remark was “It smells funny”. When I wasn’t looking she cut up a slice of lime and plopped it into her beer. When I took note of this and stated/asked “You put a lime in your Corona?” she replied: “This slice of lime is exactly what this beer needs.”

I would recommend a canned Corona Extra for your taste test to eliminate the potential of skunking.

    Cheers!

This isn't legal in PA so it will depend on where you are located.

What's illegal? Aren't distributors' case prices cheaper than the same beer as
    2 X 12pk or 4 X 6pk?

Others were suggesting to the OP to ask a store that sells six packs if they could buy a whole case for a discount. Here in PA a place like Giant grocery store that sells six packs would not be able to sell you a full case, as that requires a different license and they can only sell you a max of 192 oz. per purchase.

And no, unfortunately in many cases buying 12 or 24 beers at a distributor in PA saves you no money.

Yeah, I know that (been beer-shoppin' across the Delaware for over 45 years:wink:) which is why I specified "distributors' case prices".
Really? Damn. I haven't done many PA beer runs since the law changed and doubt that I have bought anything but cases at a distributor but I thought I recalled PA beer buyers here on the BA forums complaining about the "high" prices on six- and twelve-packs at distributors once they were legal, calling it an up-charge for the smaller quantities - thus thinking of it backwards from most other states' beer drinkers who think of it as a "case discount".

Hmm, you must be misremembering. I can't fathom the esteemed PA BAs complaining about beer pricing :stuck_out_tongue:

You had taken a statement of mine to someone else and asked what would be illegal but looks like wires are crossing somewhere here :beers:

I am sure a few shops run like this but I haven't seen it much anymore and outside of a few cents savings (maybe) a $10.99/six pack beer would generally run $43 a case after taxes.

Yea, move to the continental US from American Samoa . Beer has got to be cheaper here.

Looking at this issue too! Just retired and need to cut back on my pricey beer. I have a grocery store that has a good single bottle case for 12.99. I look for beer that exceeds that price and load up when they have it. Other than that, I buy cases for my go to beer. I also tell my kids what I like and hope they remember for my birthday, holidays etc.

Honestly, your best bet is Founders 15 packs. Though variety is limited. Craft beer is not a cheap mans game I'm sad to say. My go to cheap beer is 30 packs of Hamms.

buying those "make your own six-pack" things at the store is always nice. usually it's only $9.99 or even cheaper, and you get to try some of the newest stuff without committing to a bulk pack. I think the most expensive one I did was a $12 six-pack at The Fresh Market, but that's a big outlier.

Newest? Aren't most of those stuff out of six packs where somebody stole one/somebody dropped/they couldn't sell in a timely matter?
