Not sure if this is old news, or even newsworthy, but it seems as if Narragansett Bohemian Pilsner is back. This beer came out a while back (I loved it), but then they stopped making it. On the BA page for it says that it's no longer being made. But I hit Narragansett's new brewery in Providence yesterday and there it was, on draft and in cans (new label design though). Still tasty. I'm excited that it's back and that Narragansett is brewing in Providence. Nice location by India Point Park too.

Hopefully we can comvince them to bring back Narragansett Bock. That beer was very good and priced right (less than $10 for 6 pack 16 oz cans!)

Oh yeah, I remember that brew. That one was good too.

In a continued effort to find decent 16oz 6pks, since JA hiked their prices 33%, I came upon their Citra Session at the weekend. That’s going straight into the summer drinking rotation. 4.2% and just the right amount of hops to stand out over aal corn taste.

there’s definitely a place for this beer while watching the football this summer

I will check this out if I find it. I've found they do the classic european styles quite well for the price. I recall enjoying their Helles and always really like their Marzen.

Had this on tap at the new brewery last weekend. Pretty well done, and the new location is awesome. Enjoyed the Musik Express IPA too. I think they’ll do well there.

What about having to fight against the stigma of the name ? I mean because of the name being associated with the old adjunct lager its never gonna be the hip, cool, brewery even if the beers are good. I mean if someone locally has a choice between 2 breweries to visit are they gonna choose Gansett over the smaller brewery just because its got a nice location ? I dont know. I think the tourists and out of towners will choose Gansett because they know the name and because of the city.

Is Bohemian Pils RI/brewery-only? Beer finder on their site had minimal listings, all of which were in Rhode island. I see the lager, aforementioned Fresh Catch, and the Del's around here, but not much else.

I recall a brief period in the Boston punk scene where everyone was drinking Narragansett instead of PBR. It was hip for that moment in time!

I feel like it still is. Whenever I'd play O'Brien's or Charlie's pre-pandemic the Gansett was flowing.

I’ll ask my brother too, he organizes shows at the usual haunts such as those.

I mean this in the most respectful way: Outside of like 5% of beer drinkers, yes. Most people couldn’t care less about who is the smaller or more craft or cooler or who makes the haziest hazy. They care about going to a nice location (and a name that most people in their party recognizes helps a lot). Location is literally the number one thing.

“hey you wanna go to a brewery in the back of a storage facility or to a nice waterfront location?”

I mean Gansett is in a great fucking location. Buttonwoods makes an outstanding Bohemian pilsner, but yeah the great waterfront location wins out over the industrial loading dock. I can always hit Cranston for cans to go after getting drafts on the waterfront.

All the breweries I know like that are packed (Kane for one).

I was at the Seaport two weeks ago. I went to Trillium's beer garden by the Greenway (decent location, but basically plopped in the middle of traffic), Trillium Fort Point, Legal Harborside (to the roof deck), and Love Joy Wharf (nice view, but limited outdoor seating, and otherwise by the Garden in the off season).

The only line was at the Cisco beer garden. Right in the middle of everything, huge outdoor patio with tons of beer vendors selling their beer. There's ALWAYS a line there and it's jam packed.

No offense to Cisco, but on here they don't exactly have the cachet of a Nightshift or Trillium.

Granted it was a two hour wait to get to Trillum's roof deck...

I'm just saying that I think we (I'm including myself here) tend to overstate the allure of the smaller breweries with more street cred. A very, very high majority of people would rather spend their time at a brewery -- whose beers might not win an UnTapped award -- with a sick waterfront location than at a brewery with six taps of hazy IPAs in the industrial park Aaron Hernandez (allegedly) killed someone.

I used to be in a band called The Okay Win, and then I was in Ian Cat & The Crimsons, now I'm in Shrink Ray. The one that got the most gigs was The Okay Win, I was in that band for about 5 years, we opened for some bigger bands at Mid East Upstairs, and we opened for Stephen Malkmus at Sinclair one time.

I think that was around the time of a 'gansettt packaging redesign. I recall a pal bringing a sixer to my Boston home. He read the motto on the can ("Made on Honor, Sold on Merit") and said, "Hey, these Dropkick Murphy songs just write themselves!"

I haven't had Music Express yet. I want to love it, mainly because the actual Music Express was a highlight of my childhood.

I'd prefer to drink Cisco Whale's Tale Pale Ale more so than anything Trillium brews.
