Anyone seen Shop Talk out in the wild yet or tried it? Excited for a lower abv west coast from Rev.

    Haven't seen it yet.
But at 7%, is that really a lower ABV West Coast IPA? That seems pretty average nowadays?

I meant lower than West Coast Hero that is at 8%. idk for me even though it's 1% difference 7 seems so much lower than 8. Probably just a mental thing but I think twice about grabbing an 8% beer vs a 7% beer.

Checking in. Shop Talk is legit. I don't know that I'd call it a west coast IPA (even though it uses the typical hops), as it has that typical midwest sweetness to it. But it has the bitter bite and fruity nose to back it up. I assume its the cryo hops lending to that fruitiness, as I've noticed this in most of the PW cryo beers.

Also, the taproom has E. Norma Gene on draft. Pre-DW, it was the best BA beer Rev did not in the SJ family in my opinion. Unfortunately this is the 2016 batch, which has a slighty tart fruitiness to it. But I still recommend it, because underneath that, its slightly boozy, velvety, smooth dark chocolate. Pairs well with some Miles Davis.

    E. Norma Gene was easily the best stout Rev had made up to that point in time. I remember drinking it on tap at beer cellar years ago during a barrel madness event and being totally blown away. If I were in the city I’d race over to revisit. I’m sure it’s aged beautifully

Question. Has anyone bought any Mineshaft Gap recently? I’ve picked up a couple packs over the last 2 months from my Binny’s, and every can has been a gusher. They still taste excellent (no tartness or anything like that). And I never had issue with any previous packs. We’re some over-carbed, or is something happening over time? Just curious if anyone had experienced this.

Had one last night that I bought direct from the brewery and was great, and not a gusher at all.
My cans have not been refrigerated, but the few left have been in basement cabinet since purchase.

Mine have all been in my basement closet (averages between 60-65 degrees). I'll try refrigerating the rest. Of late, I've been purchasing a 4 pack per week of Deep Woods and have only had the issue with MG. The first pack I wrote off as bad luck, but when it happened with the can from the new pack I opened last night I got concerned. But I haven't seen any other complaints, so maybe my Binny's is just putting them on the shelf with paint mixers.

And I thought I didn’t have any restraint. I’m sharing this with my wife so I don’t look so bad.

For those that remember, there was a thread a while back that postulated on the use of Jello as a means of adsorbing vibration for the prevention of gushers and foamy beer. If I recall correctly, this is at least the second instance where having access to that thread (since removed) would be of benefit to the BA community. Maybe @FBarber sees this and can lend a hand in getting that one restored.

Yeah, I’m not proud of it. In fairness though, my wife loves Supermassive almost as much as I do, so I can partly blame her as well

Cracked a Mineshaft tonight. Stored in cellar temp until a week ago, when it was put in the fridge.

    Not a gusher at all.

Huge head with a rough pour, but hardly out of the realm of acceptable carb.

    Tasted fucking great, also.

Sadly, I think that edition of Mineshaft will be the equivalent of a Galaxy Bowl B1 where later editions were never as a good. I just don't see how Mineshaft could be any better and I'll applaud the hell out of Revolution if it is as good next time they make it.

Wasn't the most recent batch actually batch 2?

I'm not worried about it honestly, Rev seems to get better at making these beers over time, not worse.

The most recent batch of VSOJ is incredible and not a noticable drop from the hyped batch.

Eh....this new VSOJ was excellent but I'd call it a drop-off.

    Might just be rose-colored memories...

Probably the latter honestly, although I would be interested if someone did a side by side.

EIther way, even if you think the previous VSOJ was a 10, I don't think the most recent batch was anything less than a 9.5 or 9.

In general, I'm not worried about the next batch of Mineshaft Gap being anything but exceptional.

At the taproom last night I attempted to use my considerable charm to acquire a crowler of E. Norma Gene. I was very politely told that it wasn't going to happen.

    Maybe I'm...not so charming?!

The beer tasted fantastic, by the way, equal parts fudge and blackberry to my palate. I had a second glass to ease the pain of my failed coup!
