Kombucha? That stuff isn't for me. Made with a Scoby, which is a “Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast”. The aroma and flavors aren't appealing to me. Some I know make their own for the supposed health benefits.

I saw the podcast in my feed, haven't list to it yet. Maybe Ken drinks it for the health benefits.

Oh, a Scoby looks like slime to me.

Kombucha can have varying levels of tartness, I have tried it, but it was when I was on the downside of my sour beer journey (the tarter the better, give me that vinegar). I was trying to think of the brand that has been doing this before it was considered a thing and found them, Unity. Seems now when you go to their site they have rebranded to fall in line with the Hard Seltzer look, used to only find them in 22 oz bottles which they show they still make.

I'm assuming Ken and family will not ***** themselves out to MTV anytime soon.

Don't worry Budweiser fans, the Brazilians hold the reins on the Clydesdales.

I haven't seen this video posted anywhere before so I figure I'll take the opportunity to do it here:

For the record*, Billy Busch, Sr. never worked for Anheuser-Busch and, even tho' the cans (and one T-Shirt) seem to be featured in the video, his start-up contract-brew Kraftig beer supposedly went out of business in 2019? (Maybe that part of the Busch family isn't as fanatical about freshness as the ones who ran the brewing company?)

    * OTOH, the record of the extended Busch family isn't too illustrious - one can read about their sordid soap-opera-ish history up to the 1990 in Under the Influence and then the next ~20 years on the internet (****s! Drunk driving deaths! Drug overdoses! Suicides!).

Kraftig wasn't even the first start-up brewery that features a family member trying to ride the coattails of Anheuser-Busch.

And "paused" brewing the beers less than two years later.

Thanks for the show. I've never had anything from Sufferfest, was wondering what happened to this beer. When the buyout first happened my local total wine stocked a bunch of old batches, and in the short history I never saw a fresh batch delivered, under 30 days. So I passed. At least I don't have look out for it now

I sampled some hard kambucha at a bottle shop. Some rep was pushing it. Not something I would ever do again. It did weird things to my stomach. Of all the thousands of good beers out there that I have yet to try I see no reason to explore alternative beverages (unless they are free samples).

I just remembered yesterday that I've also had a beer that was soured using a scoby. It was a collaboration with a local booch maker and used local blueberries. It was acceptable but nothing amazing, anyone else ever seen that?

Also, serendipitously, an old friend reached out with pics of her newly finished kombucha brewery near Ft. Wayne so if anyone is in the area and wants some solid booch I'll throw a shameless plug in for Lunar Infusions. She said she's in some grocery stores and looking to open a tasting room soon

Beyond Beer, aka crappy seltzers to sell to the Bud Lite drinking crowd.

I mentioned that in my last survey I did for SN.

I said SN did not get to where it's at by hopping on the seltzer bandwagon.

I think I get a whopping 10c/Survey, they might subtract for that one

If you are a glass is half-full person the 'good news' is that Sierra Nevada has not produced hard seltzers (yet).

I used to be a Sierra Nevada survey person but that stopped a couple of years ago. I used to construct essays in the block where you were permitted to provide open discussion. I always wondered if anybody ever read what I wrote. I can report that they never initiated my suggestions/recommendation. Perhaps they ignored me since I was not a "beyond beer" advocate? :flushed:

    Cheers!

Don't worry, in five to ten years, you will see a business theme "Back to Beer".

The industry has been changes the last several years. As long as SN continues to make quality beers, I'm good. I need to start a separate thread about FW...

Given that Stout and Porter are now discontinued (and Kellerweis as well?) by my reckoning the only year-round beer that is not a hoppy beer is Narwhal. Are you "good" with that?

    Cheers!

That's unusually generous of you towards SN Jack, considering narwhal is only a winter seasonal and its somewhat hoppy as far as stouts go

I forgot to add Barrel Aged in front of the word Narwhal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
