Yeah, it's a big deal to me. Maybe not a deal breaker, but something I'll think about when deciding whether TH is the place I want to go with people to have a couple of beers. Like I said, having to pull out phones disrupts a group's conversation and togetherness and puts everybody back in their own little electronic world. Even if it's just for a short time (which it might not be, when there are two dozen beer descriptions to read through before deciding), it takes a collective experience and turns it into an individualized one. I find that bothersome enough to be a factor in where I'll enjoy spending time with people. Maybe it won't change the decision of where to go for beers when my sister and her husband visit next month, but it will absolutely make the experience less enjoyable than it would otherwise be.

While it's odd for iGen to be so computer illiterate, I was almost glad for you that you seemed to have learned how to Google today, but either you're intentionally misquoting something or you failed at that as well, because I'm just not finding that 63% number, as everywhere I'm looking seems to show it to be smaller.

There's no such thing as unlimited data, and considering most of us are on wifi 99% of our waking, cell phone using lives, it's a completely unnecessary expense, only made more slightly economical on larger family plans like the one your parents have you on.

No more minimum orders in Charlton! One less thing for the unfortunate ones on here to complain about!

Most carriers are marketing their unlimited plans. Both Verizon and AT&T have Unlimited front and center on their plans pages whereas the shared plans require a bit of digging. Given this, I don't think it's that unreasonable for someone who does pay for their own cell phone bill to not be aware that shared data plans still exist.

Is the 2GB plan that you are currently on one that has been grandfathered? I understand that your 2GB plan might be substantially cheaper than what is currently being offered, but it's not available anymore. The smallest available data plan on Verizon's website is 5GB. Someone new to Verizon that only needs one line would either have to go with the Start Unlimited for $70/month or the 5GB shared for $55/month. $15 more per month to make sure you don't go over a data cap doesn't scream "mommy pays my phone bill" to me.

I want to challenge Nate to brew Good Morning and make it stand out against his other 298338 stouts and the competition. If he proves us wrong and it does stand out. I think we can retire the word “hype”

But really I just wanted to get away from the cell phone talk.

I think GM is probably done, but I give it a 5% chance of being brewed in the next couple years (based on intense calculations and TA). If it were to be released it would be a "let down" to most people but still an incredible maple stout. My gold standard for a non barrel aged, non lactose maple stout is Double Stack. It's exactly what I picture GM tasting like.

lol the lady doth protest too much, methinks. If you're unfamiliar with data plans, your mommy is definitely paying :shruggie:

The savings is more like $50-60/month. My savvy may be more related to my aversion to social media and smartphones, since I only converted to a smartphone a few years ago, but it didn't take much effort, at all. That is, for a grown adult who pays their own bills.

Another shit take from you. Sorry not sorry that your posts have increasingly gotten on my nerves and it only came to a head today, but Great Notion makes nothing but artificial sugar bombs.

Double Stack sucks. It tastes like corn syrup and candy, and ruins any other beer present in a busy taproom within 30 feet of sniffing distance via its acridly cloying sugar cloud.

The only brewery that makes Double Stack look good is Mikerphone.

90% of this thread is frivolous complaints against TH, but this is one of the few valid complaints.

I have no idea why the website is such a mess for such a huge operation. There are way too many words and pages and FAQs and if it's overwhelming for a TH veteran like me, newcomers must be ready to smash their phones on the pavement.

Why is "can I bring my dog" higher up on the FAQ list than the "easy" four paragraph explanation about draft? Why is the implication that only people visiting Sandwich care about gluten-free beer?

How come, after reading the entire website, I still don't know where to go to pick up my cans? Why do I have to be overwhelmed by the FAQ and then overwhelmed again when I arrive as I hastily search around looking for signs and directions?

There was a big fuss a month ago about people asking questions in this thread that could be answered with the website. Key word is "could". Sure, if I wanted to give myself a migraine and waste a bunch of time, I could scour the website for an answer that may not even be there, or I could ask somebody here who knows the answer and save everybody a bunch of time and headaches.

The first thing I learned about readability is brevity, white space, and bullets. Long, rambling walls of text do not make for a friendly "how to" environment. The website is far from the worst I've seen, but it's definitely not the best, as pretty as it may look.

All of this is made even more frustrating because it's constantly changing. Why can't drinking beer be simple?

I'm with you - I barely use data - I'm on wifi all day every day. Unlimited plans are wholly unnecessary to me.

I don't want to pile on to the frivolous complaints, but I'll add a story of confusion that I experienced and haven't seen the exact situation mentioned here.

I visited Charlton in mid-July on a Friday afternoon and then stopped by again on Saturday at opening. Two totally different experiences. I actually managed to order cans and draft tickets online prior to arriving Friday. Had no trouble getting in line, getting ID'd, getting can order called in. There was a separate can line, and no line for the bar. I was able to walk right up to the bar, order my draft, all without a hitch, and pick up my cans when I left.

Saturday I came back just have two more draft beers since I got all the cans I wanted the day before. I assumed the process would be similar, so after waiting in line, getting ID'd and saying I was only there for draft, I walked over to the bar and was treated like an asshole by the bar staff because apparently you don't just walk up to the bar on Saturday and that there is a line on the other side of the bar. I am not complaining about the process, it makes sense, but it would have been appreciated if the staff who I told I was only getting draft had directed me to the line for draft beer. On Friday, the staff was clear and helpful, but not on Saturday at opening which seems like a better time to have things clearly organized. The beer was good, the line moved fast, and I left happy, so mostly just sharing to help any other draft-only Saturday morning visitors.

I'd imagine most of the staff are annoyed at having to answer these same questions and deal with clueless customers over and over that sometimes they can get snippy.

Really makes you wonder why there are so many clueless customers asking those questions in the first place.

Well, not really. I know the answer.

This happened to me as well. Since then, I've seen a sign directing people around the bar but the sign isn't always there. If they'd like people to line up in a certain way, they should make it easily known.

when i went to the bar on a non-busy weekday, I walked to the outside portion of the bar, and they told me (nicely) to get in line on the other side, which I did. My 2nd trip up for my second beer I walked right to the line, and stood like an idiot for 3 minutes at the front of the line while the bar-staff was playing grabass with each other. and then when they saw me, they acted like it was my fault for not walking up to the area they told me not to walk up to previously...

I just saw a guy picking up 21+ cases there. Hopefully he was proxying for 3 others but I still don't know what someone would do with that much beer.
Also, the sign to direct people around bar for drafts is up and working well.

I don't have an enormous problem with the reliance on the phone, but it does feel kind of unnecessarily confusing. Feel like having one in person draught ticket person and some printed menus (even just taped to the posts like old times) would go a long way.

As far as can sales, if they ever convert the first line - the hey I'm ready to pick up my cans line - to an online check in, the new system will be 10000 times better than the paper and pencil one. Without that, I still like it for making it so I don't have to worry about what I want selling out. But waiting twice feels really nonsensical to me with how much everything else relies on the phone.
