Or drink the beer out of whatever glass you prefer and just say nothing about the glass.

I'm gonna have to disagree. Tulip describes the bulb and lip, not the stem.

No stem in the above linked glass yet still described as a tulip.

For most forums on BA I can just include the picture of the beer in the glass, if relevant, but since the shape supposedly influences scent and taste for reviews I prefer to state what glass I am using. I actually just assumed this was an easy answer. Apparently it isn't. I like reading all the inputs, though. I'm leaning toward "modified tulip pint glass" unless some more definitive inputs are received. I have also seen web references to "perfect pint" but IMO that is not sufficiently descriptive for a name that is apparently not widely used.

Beer glasses (like beer styles but maybe more so) usually don't have specific/universally agreed upon names, and they can vary from brewery to brewery, bar to bar, region to region. The UK and Irish "Tulip" imperial pint noted above a classic example, which US glass manufacture Libbey calls a "Pub Glass".

In Australia a "schooner" might be a 425ml glass of beer or in an Adelaide bar a 285ml drink but most Americans, as well as Libbey, use the term for a large 18 oz. goblet. ("Most" Americans, because IIRC in the PNW a half pint is sometimes called a schooner.)

Speaking of Libbey, which produces most of the oft-hated "Shaker pints" in the US - sometimes just called a "pint glass" (a pretty useless term if you think about it) - calls their 16 oz. and other sizes "Mixing Glasses" (which, of course, is what they started out as) while the so-called "cheater" 14 oz. shaker pints from Libbey are called "Coolers" in their catalog.

How about the "We like the Sam Adams Perfect Pint but don't want to get sued" glass?

I think the correct term is a Bougie Pint.

I like the naming challenge the Samuel Adams type of glass makes. You really don't know, it can be this or that. I'd go with Samuel Adams Type. Don't know if that's allowed

Yeah, but is it really "bougier" than BBC's Samuel Adams "Perfect" Pint Glass? Maybe a bit more pretentious - which, from what I can tell however, is a attribute much loved by a large portion of the geekery. :open_mouth: Go figure.

I only made that comment since you stated that you "had" to switch glasses. Do what works for you (instead of the reader) first and foremost. Try pouring half a beer into the glass you use for reviews and the other half into the glass in discussion. See if there's a difference for you. That should help you even if you find a difference or no difference.

Regarding "modified tulip pint glass," is that glass even a pint sized glass (I assume it is, but it looks small in the photo)? If I saw that name in a review, it wouldn't mean much to me... so if the desire is to provide more info for the reader, I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. If you said "stemless tulip" or "flared pint glass" I would at least be able to picture something close enough. Maybe that's just me.

This. If I saw the phrase "modified tulip pint glass," I wouldn't have any idea what that means. I know what a tulip pint is, but "modified" is really vague. "Flared pint glass" or even "flared tulip pint" gives me a much clearer picture. "Flared" tells me the shape of the lip and "pint" leads me to assume that it's stemless.

    haha pretty much

This definitely seems like a take on a Sam Adams Perfect Pint, which is actually a great glass (maybe my favorite for hoppy spectrum american craft styles).

Yes, it holds a pint, but only if there is no head. I usually end up filling the glass then drinking the remaining oz or two straight from the can just to try it that way.

I think I'm going to go with "similar to a squattier version of a SamAdams Perfect Pint" and leave it at that.
