So now they are not seating anyone because they “are backed up”. So if coming from distance it might make sense to wait until later

Sure is, drinking my crowler now! A little less than 2 months until I’ll be drinking at Live Oak.

I was there for a few hours yesterday, It was slammed but a fun event. They had cans of the New Zealand Lager to go and the guy working there said they had cans of the Pilsner and grodziskie to go for distro this week

Picked up dovetail festbier! Any other good local festbiers/marzens out yet?

I picked up the Polish Pils yesterday - I have to say, it’s really well done. crystal clear and a great spicy bite. I’m on board the Goldfinger train now and will be grabbing more for sure.

Finally made it out to Goldfinger this afternoon, a friend just moved within walking distance from it. The Pils was good, but I definitely prefer Dovetail’s and Flywheel over it. But their OG Lager is a different story. My word, I have a new beer I need in my fridge at all times. The Grodziskie is also excellent.

Only disappointment was that they no longer had the New Zealand Lager available. I can only imagine how good that one was.

I tried their Polish Pils (thanks @FBarber ) today and it was good, but very unique. Very herbal and grassy, with a huge note of lemon zest. It gained some complexity as it warmed up. It’s a nice “once in a while” beer.

They added a unique yeast strain to that one - pretty interesting stuff

But yea, totally agree on it being a "once in a while beer"

Yup, my wife got that first and I thought the same after trying a couple sips. Wanted to try the Mexican Lager as well but only had so much time.

Well if that is the one you missed out on, you should hit up Bar Chido for it (and dinner). {I say this as a person who has not yet made it to Bar Chido, but have heard great things ... and their Mexican lager is the best Mexican lager I've ever had)

I’m back home now, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind for my next trip (I say that like it’s so far away).

Add me to the list of fans of Goldfinger beers. Just tried that Polish Pils - a knockout in my book.
Fantastic stuff, and it has a distinctive taste to it, compared to the other 100s of whatever-ilsners I try every year. Great stuff!

Was in Downers Grove this weekend for the Frida Kahlo exhibit and wasn't going to pass up the chance to hit Goldfinger based on this thread. Loved what we had on tap and spent way too much on take home stuff as usual.

Afterwards we swung over to Dovetail for an evening pickup. Didn't realize they had so many wild ale options in addition to the pilsners. If my wallet wasn't already so battered from Goldfinger I could have easily gone broke loading up on to-go stuff there. Looks like they had some wild lager type beers there too? I didn't grab any of those and didn't have time for a pour at the bar, but has anyone tried those? The sound...different...

From an out of towner thanks everyone for the info in this thread. It allowed me to put together a good daytrip itinerary after our big September plans all went to shit due to Covid.
