I'll be spending a few days in Seaside Heights at the end of the month and am just looking for a heads up on the beer scene. Are local NJ beers available at most bars on draught? Or where should my limited time be best spent?

Not a whole lot of craft beer business on the boardwalk. They've got Heavy Reel Brewing, which I liked, but it's super tiny so just be aware if you've got a big group. Definitely a few places that had Kane, too, but don't expect most places to have a robust draft list.

The closest place I can think of that has a pretty extensive menu including local stuff is crabs claw inn over in Lavallette.

Heavy Reel recently moved to a new and much larger spot down the road, I went a few weeks back. My only issue was probably 50%-2/3 of the beers available when I went were the "Thykk" fruited/smoothie type, a style that I'm not that into, but that just may have been a timing thing. Worth a stop for sure if you are in the area.

As for other bars in seaside proper, can't say as it's more of a shore town party scene that likely won't cater to craft beer enthusiasts,

    - Sawmill usually has a half dozen or so NJ crafts on tap
    - Chef Mike's ABG + Bum Rogers should both have a handful of locals on
    - Jimbo's is usually good for a few locals and some bigger-type regional/national crafts
    - Hemingway's should have some local/regional cans.
    - Spirits Ortley Beach has a great package selection for the fridge @ wherever you're staying.

(and to be fair the first few are technically Seaside Park...)

Thanks for the input so far everybody, this has been really helpful. It's only going to be a few days, and I plan on taking things as they go, but the more info ahead of time the better.

My buddy reports that he did not like the fruity sours at Heavy Reel and The Beachcomber has $4 SN Hazey

Heavy Reel does some good beers and recently moved into a new spot.

Last Wave is in Point Pleasant a short drive away. Walking distance from here is a beer bar named Amendment 21. Also walking is Rosie pizza, which is always highly rated in the state.

Icarus as mentioned is a short drive also. There is a Spirits liquor with a great craft selection on highway 35 in Point Pleasant.

It's not in Seaside Heights, but the Crabs Claw Inn has a good selection of beers.
