Other Half (2021)

Question about the pop-up locations for Other Half ... We are going to be cruising through Monroe (Foreign Objects Nerve Center) on a drive to upstate New York in a few weeks, and do the pop up locations offer beer on tap AND beer to go, or is it just a few beers on tap?

 

I can't speak for the other locations but Monroe is only cans to go. You'll have many other places on your drive to stop to get a good beer on tap though!

 

Sounds good. Any suggestions on good beer on the way by chance? We are going from Midtown to Wawarsing, NY on the drive for that Friday

100% agree with this. I missed out on some others that people were saying a return to form like TDH DMD but Hand Truck Heroes is great, had another last night and it was just as good as the first can I opened.

 

NY-wise, you could stop at District 96 Rushing Duck and Equilibrium along the way without too much of a detour (not to mention Two Villains, Tin Barn, Drowned Lands), and if going across the Lincoln Tunnel you could stop at Brix City. I'd check timing of open, some would be noon but others may be 3/4pm on a Friday. If you have to just pick one I'd go with District 96, and if you have a minute suggest getting a burger and fries too (don't forget the fry sauces!)

For more variety vs. a single brewery, Growler & Gill and Ambulance Brew House in Nanuet both have good tap selection. Growler also has a retail component, and Cable Beverages is nearby too (check canned on dates). Beer King in Middletown is a good stop too. I'd advise to load up before you get north of I-84 (Middletown) as it starts to get pretty rural pretty quickly.

 

DDH Roc Showers w/ Medusa is an absolute banger, pick it up if you can. I grabbed it out of curiosity cuz I'm unfamiliar with Medusa, turns out it's a neomexicanus hop like Sabro. Aromatic bomb that finishes fairly dry, drier than usual for OH at least.

 

Was just starting at the mixed shipper pack that has Roc Showers in it, description intrigued me. Thanks for the good word, I think I’ll order it.

 

If you order for Curbside Pickup in BK, do you have to pick it up the same day, or can you order a couple of days in advance?

That's been the "rule of thumb" with rare exception - however I really doubt they care that much if its a day or two. The space consumed by most orders is minimal.
My guess is worst case they'll refund you.

 

I was in Stamford yesterday and found this at the local liquor shop. Just now noticed the barcodes.

 

Correct me if I’m wrong but barcodes are not necessary. Most boutique shops just select it at their POS or make their own little barcode sticker. This would mean they plan to be in places like grocery stores, gas stations, or more “basic” retail locations that handle their inventory a different way and just need a simple built in scan.

 

Anyone known if the choice Victorian galaxy in DDH all galaxy everything will make a difference, or still think this galaxy should be avoided. I wonder if this is a different crop then they used in space diamonds.

 

I can tell you that if it tastes like the most recent batch of Space Diamonds you’ll want to avoid. Surprised they still brew these Galaxy dominant beers so much when the product is obviously just not very good. Grimm said they have been altering their brewing a bit to avoid this galaxy crop.

 

Yeah its wild how Galaxy has gone and it sucks, used to be one of my fav hops. I drank a Conclave anniversary IPA the other night and it was Citra & Galaxy and I got that bad Galaxy taste right way.

 

Didn’t a similar thing happen 2 years ago with Galaxy. It’s amazing how they still have brewers tripping over each other to buy their stock with so much quality fluctuations.

 

My understanding is that HPA/Barth-Haas keeps a pretty tight control on selection for Galaxy and there is a lot of inferior Galaxy being grown so its hard to get only the higher quality product. Victoria seems to be where more of the product we know as Galaxy comes from.
