NBS BIF #14 Sign Up Thread

Well, the time is nigh. Our biannual BIF supporting the newest iteration of New Beer Sunday, New Beer Weekend.
For frequent fliers, the rules, requirements and rewards are well established. But here is the lay of the land (before the chaos begins), just in case:

Our BIF is directly related to New Beer Weekend. NBW is a very welcoming little nook on BA. Consider it like Cheers. While everybody might not know your name, everybody IS interested in what you have to share about a new beer. If you have not participated before, we would prefer that you have some trades under your belt and/or somebody could endorse you. So, if you would like to participate in this BIF, we would love to hear about some of the beers you receive in the New Beer Weekend threads in October. Hmmm, I guess I should talk about the timeframe now.

Timeframe:
Today, August 28th, begins the official sign up period.
Signups close September 12th.
Your target will be assigned the following week.
Chaos begins in the Hints & Hauls (H&H) Thread: approximately 9/17.
And then the pièce de résistance, your destruction, or at least part of it, must be delivered on, or before, October 14th.

Our goal is to have everybody wet for New Beer Weekend #65. (@ChicagoJ help me with the correlating NBS count)...

Participation:
You must send a minimum of 96oz of fermented fun (I do mean beer). And having said this, you must be ok with receiving that amount. While nobody has ever shot for a “minimum” send, the whole vibe of our shit show is a shining example of “it’s what you give, not what you get.” Put some thought into your target. What do they like? What can you put in their hand that would surprise, excite, or amaze? It’s new beer for your target. Ship something you’d love to get, or something you’d love to tell your target why you sent it, and you have made this BIF great.

*Also, some of our participants are clinically batshit crazy. Please do not worry if you cannot send a massive box like what you may have seen. Some of our most appreciated sends have not been carried by the Enola Gay, rather they were well thought out and precisely targeted with WANTS, surprises, and stealth.

So in summary, send what you want to send. And gratefully receive what is sent.

Participation Part II:
Please know that one of the most brilliant facets of this gem is the banter and blunder of the Hints & Hauls (H&H) thread. You MUST participate in giving clues to your recipient, and hopefully try to figure out who is targeting your porch. This is a small minimum, and I am extremely reluctant to give such a low number, but, well, here I go… You must post at least 2 clues/week in the H&H thread. We understand, life happens. If you have to be away for a few days, even a week, we get it. But try to communicate if this is needed. We are very understanding. Communication is key. Message me or @Roguer and we can smooth things over until you’re “back.”

But again, I must emphasize this is the most fun in this BIF. The bluster, the obscure, the obfuscations, the humor, the camaraderie. It is pure bliss. It’s almost a travesty that it lasts a mere 3 ½ weeks...Or does it? Often it continues… Hell, NBS #13’s chaos is STILL winding on. I don’t know how to stop it. Many have tried. Maybe if we get his one started, PRONTO, it will stop!

Sometimes, repetition facilitates clarity, participation in the H&H is the heart of this BIF.

Mystery beer(s):
Send at least 1 beer identified as a Mystery Beer. Covered, disguised, or wrapped and ready to be tapped. This is fun! Recipient must blind review it. Please hit your target with this by the due date.

Local food item(s):
Holy shit, this has been a fun addition. Include some local/regional food item(s). Give your victim a taste of something local. It could be obscure. Hell, I learned some interesting things about See’s candies while I was prepping a package from SoCal (the Canadian connection). And the whole Taylor ham vs. pork roll has again broiled our East Coast participants in battle for a few rounds while it educated the rest of us about a slice of America (with or without eggs).

And yes, ice cream has been sent...successfully.

Dear Abby vs. Ann Landers (etiquette):
*Always tag your sender when speaking/writing about the beer you are blessed with. If not opining about your beer in NBW, give a shout out in the H&H thread or if you prefer, in WBAYDN.

You might receive some “cellarables.” OK. Make a note of where you got it, and give a shout out when you drink it. You don’t HAVE to drink it in the first few weeks. Shoutouts have come more than 2 years later. It happens. But give credit (and thanks) where and when it is due.

If you’re going to write about the brew anyways, post it as a review also. Come on, contribute to the greater community here.

@Roguer took the helm when Terry decided to see if new meat was willing. I have played a support role.

And NBW was preceded by NBS, helmed by @malty and then @mattcrill . Then the eloquent @cavedave and the evocative @utopiajane captained NBS Later, the thoughtful stewardship of @lordofthewiens and @cjgiant stewarded our Sunday fun … We have a legacy to uphold. Are you with us?
