Old Nations Oktoberfest is pretty good. I would say it’s in the marten style. Malty and somewhat sweet.

Had Solemn Oath’s tonight (no pic, though). I always like this beer. Even though it unabashedly diverges from the style, it’s a solid, enjoyable beer. This year seems a bit lighter-bodied than I remember. Had a nice amber color and was less hoppy than I expected. Purists might not care for it, but I’ll probably pick up some more.

Has anyone tried this year's Revolution O-fest alongside the 2021 SN Okto?

I swear they have the same recipe. The Rev might be a little more complex, with a touch more caramel flavor, and a little lighter in color, but they seem to taste very similar to me.

That is an awesome list, and I would love to partake, but unfortunately Tom really turned me off the last time we visited, ran up a $100 tab, and tried to help fix their broken front door. I asked him for an empty taster glass so I could have a taste of my daughters beer (General COVID protocol as things were opening up) and that is apparently also a no-no. I understand his no sample policy, in lieu of charging plenty for a (small) taster glass, but to squabble over having a taste of my daughters glass? Maybe just me, but I left with a pretty sour taste-

It’s pretty much the same as ever. It’s hoppy and kinda sweet and thick. That said, it is malty and I enjoy it for what it is. Is it a true Märzen? Eh, I know what I’m in for at this point and I’ve learned when to ignore style labels, and this is one of those times.

I don't know about that. SN was nothing special, but I had no problems with it, I chugged a few in hot weather. Rev, after trying it last year I was like "eff that, no more domestics this year".

Well, yeah -- but I guess I felt that way about both of them.
What didn't you like about Rev last year? I expected a hop-bomb, but it wasn't crazy to me.

To me it was a definite hop-bomb, but my sensitivity threshold is pretty low. My own fault - I should have known, considering what their flagships are.

It's definitely hoppier than the usual German Okto Marzen, but I found the SN to be in a similar vein. I have a couple of each left that I'll have to try side-by-side.

What if you balance Rev with Sam Adams and thin the result with, say, Stella?

    Great Central Festzelt:
It seems like Great Central often gets overlooked due to their status as a contract brewer (even though those beers are pretty well-done). Their own brews are solid takes on German styles, and this is another well-executed beer. It has a great malt flavor that isn’t sweet or caramelly. It doesn’t have the depth of flavor that the imports do, but it’s much closer than most ami-Oktoberfests. In a similar vein, the hops are floral and earthy with just enough bitterness. It’s more restrained than most of the beers I’ve had this season but it feels oddly heavy, just kind of a thick body to it. They may call it a Festbier, but don’t expect a Wiesn style brew.

Good idea... but I'd have to drop coin on 2 beers I'd rather not have to drink otherwise, let alone the Rev.

Only 2 cans of Rev left, I think I can muscle thru.

Fully agreed, that it tastes the same as it has in previous years. I don't know enough technical details to intelligently comment about it being a true Märzen. But I've had enough Märzens over the years for my taste buds to say that it is. Which makes my hands grab a 2nd bottle. And a 3rd...
