Ok, as the title has alluded to I have managed to acquire a bottle of Cherry Rye and am now struggling with the decision regarding whether to drink it fresh, or let it mellow out for a year. For anyone who has decided to drink it fresh, what did you think? Would you recommend popping it open immediately? I'm intrigued to know what you all think

Just drink it...it's over hyped and over rated.

IMO, Cherry Rye really is best with about a year and a half on it.

I thought it was excellent fresh. Can't really imagine it getting better by aging it.

I wish I got two when I had the chance. As it is, I have a buddy flying in from Washington over the holidays and if he's into it we are definitely opening it together. Still- I'd be interested in seeing how this thread goes in case I can get another.

Drink it. Why age it when you've never had it?

Personally I would say you should drink it between 4- 6 weeks after bottling.
Vanilla, Bramble, and even regular BCS all seem to need a few weeks to get over the "bottle sickness" that people sometimes associate with big red wines.

I would age it for a year. Better when it sits a while.

Have you had it? If not, drink it now.

Trade it to me so you don't stress over the decision.

Maybe somebody can clarify this for me, but I thought those beers were stouts?

Since you failed to post this in the proper "cellaring/ aging beer" forum, I consider all of these responses highly suspect

    Here's my reason: pregnant wife.

I have managed to acquire a whole 1 bottle in trade. I want to try it fresh SO FREAKING BAD - but the wife loves BCBS too and wants half the bottle. 15 weeks pregnant. So - that one is aging! Must....get....another!

Might be a nice one to open up after the birth of the child together. I bet 6 months would be a nice amount of aging. Bramble was bad ass from 6 months on.

Planning to do that myself, although my wife hates BCBS so I get to take down a bottle myself while my wife enjoys a nice red wine I got her.

At first I thought it was cool that my wife liked BCBS. Then, I realized it sucked.

I personally wasn't a huge fan of it fresh. I prefer coffee or regular BCBS over cherry. So over-hyped!
