Also agreed that throwing in that $25 gift card is quite nice. Extending the subs was a no brainer.
Plus I was able to find some Salem Lager at the packie to hold me over…
I also found that Ball Sq FW&S has a mix pack of 18 German o’fests from 7 different breweries, also to help tide me over.

Speciální should be about 13 Plato (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), I bet it comes in around 5.9%. I assume this is a Voll Projekt beer?

During my visit to the Czech Republic the beers that were labeled as Speciál (Speciální) were predominantly at 14°.

From my article:

“When it comes to beer strength, what we would typically associate with alcohol (ABV) strength, the Czechs instead describe the original gravity of the wort used to brew the beer. They have words for this but more commonly I have seen numbers in degrees Plato to describe the beers strength. In order of lower to higher strength:

10° or Výčepní

12° or Ležák

14° or Speciál (or Speziál)

You may on occasion see some values other than those listed above (e.g., 11°, 13°, …) but you get the general idea.”

As you can easily see from the beer menu at Únětický Pivovar their Speciál beer is at 14°:



But as I discussed above there can be some latitude here.

Speciální or speciál just means stronger than 13ºP, so presumably Vollbier

Regardless Evan Rail has a solid article on dark lagers (from 2018), which briefly touches on speciál + the example is reminiscent to @JackHorzempa experience (e.g. Koutský 14º Tmavý Speciál)

Definitely Voll Projekt! This came in at 14.5 P and will in the high 5s for ABV%. Should be ready in early to mid November.

 

Had a blast at their Oktoberfest a few years back. Anyone know if their okto/festbeir is out yet?

At Brighton

 

First time at the Brighton location. If I lived within walking distance of here (like my wife did when we started dating) I might quit homebrewing.
