Maybe everyone else already knows about this place, but I went to Rattle n Hum (http://www.rattlenhumbarnyc.com/) for the first time yesterday. Nice selection of beers, friendly and seemingly knowledgeable staff. I also liked that their beer menu included both the price and volume of each serving for every beer. They didn't carry BMC products but had a list of craft suggestions for those who normally drink BMC ("If you drink Blue Moon, you might like x!"). Very happy to find another good place near Penn.

Had my first Sculpin on tap. I've been very disappointed in the bottles I've bought lately, which I've chalked up to age. On tap it really was very good - maybe not QUITE as good as I hoped, but way better than the old bottles.

I hear there's a new place called Ginger Man or something opening nearby soon too, might also have a good beer or 2

Ginger Man has been around for a while, unless you mean they will open a new location. Pretty good place.

right, heaven forbid i find a new spot (for me) and start a conversation about it instead of just reading reviews....good thing 99% of the content on this site isn't old stuff

I think the underlying point of most of these responses is that almost everyone has walked into a new bar (for them) at one point or another in their lives. If there were a thread for every time that actually happened...well....there'd be almost nothing else on the forums.

I mean, if you had a truly extraordinary experience then I'd probably understand the need for a thread, but I didn't pick up anything out of the usual based on your account.

all fair points...just spreading the love, thought people might like to hear or have a conversation

ok, im gonna go start a new thread asking people what their favorite beer is, but ill word it in a new way...should be good for about 11 million responses

You should start a thread of Pliny vs Heady, I don't think that's been discussed here yet
