It's interesting to me that everywhere Tree House goes (Brimfield, Monson, Sandwich), there are neighbors that are frustrated by their presence.

It seems that on one hand, these communities are failing to recognize breweries beyond being a place to get wasted and drive home drunk. Obviously, that's not the case. On the other hand, if I lived in this neighborhood and, during business hours, I had HazeBoiz turning around in my driveway, carrying cases of beer down my street, and tossing empty cans out their windows.

(Now, before you virtually shoot me, I do understand that the majority of people don't do these things, but if one person does, it's one person too many).

I lean more toward the former. I believe that communities with breweries tend to thrive and grow. But there are parts of the Cape that aren't looking for that.

Also notable that this is likely a community with a number of vacation homes (right?) and retirees, where residents are typically -in my experience- far more opposed to development, change, and growth than your average community.

The fact that this was previously commercially-zoned makes their argument a thin one, but I can definitely see why they'd be suspicious of an incoming army of jabronis with handtrucks full of hazies invading their quiet beach town.

I do not fault the neighbors only because their only sample to date for this type of setting (back road as opposed to highway and limited in physical area) is Monson. They rarely even did drafts at Monson and I still felt bad for an surrounding neighbors when seeing the occasional empty can on the side of the road, a huge traffic backup while attendants tried desperately to get cars parked across the street, etc. Not having been to that neighborhood but based on the dense home lots, I'm guessing traffic is ALREADY an issue during peak summer season before accounting for TH.

I know the actual coastal location is the key feature TH was looking for, but a more practical area on the Cape is probably more like the Hyannis or Mashpee where there are substantial industrial/commercial areas that could handle the local traffic.

To get back to the beer, I picked up some Green-ish this weekend and as opposed to Juli-ish I REALLY noticed how it was a light version of the same beer. It really popped, just wish I got more cans. But when only going maybe 2-3 times per year I get FOMO-itis and need to try a variety of new beers in my case.

People forget that there were multiple town meetings when Tree House was still in the planning level of development. The neighbors had a chance to voice their concerns/displeasure and essentially stop the project before ground was broken. They were either too lazy, too busy or didn't want to be bothered to spend an hour out of their busy lives to go to town hall for a night or two. They allowed the brewery to build in their neighborhood and now they want to be heard.

Rant over, now get off my lawn!

TH didn't build anything there; there was no ground broken. They took over an existing structure that used to be a restaurant/bar. They made some improvements inside. And they bought the house next door, still standing. And I remember news articles about locals objecting to this from the get-go. This article is from back in May; the town held one meeting, which was broadcast on the local public access station (and it didn't work, lol, of course) before approving TH's permit. Another article here from April.

I don't really have an opinion, just pointing out that there were residents objecting from the beginning.

Keep your logic out of here. Fuck those random people that don't like hazy beer and the horse they rode in on.

Part of the success TH has is most definitely the location where they stuck it each time and some of the earthy crunchy/hippie-ness they promote a bit. Stick the same brewery in Boston and it’s just another top tier brewery. And people will bitch that Nate has 3 homes like….

I don't know about anyone else, but the Sweatshirt avatar isn't working for me anymore. It's staining his spotless reputation, not to mention the heartwarming memories we once shared.

TH isn't crunchy anymore. It's the investment banker who goes to Phish shows.

I tend to side with the Sandwichers. Tree House is a den of sin and I'm not really sure it brings anything more vibrant to the community than a crappy sports bar with Margarita Mondays does beyond a lot of tax revenue.

If anyone is looking for a pretty sweet Tree House experience, a foundation called Begin Again is auctioning off a package. The charitable foundation helps many communities but is focused on helping Sepsis survivors. The auction can be found by searching "Begin Again Foundation Auction." If you're not in a position to bid but can spread the word, it would be for a great cause. The package consists of:

The winner of this auction will receive an exclusive tour for up to four people with owner, Dean Rohan. Guests will tour all three Tree House facilities: Taproom, Brewery, and Distillery located in Charlton, Massachusetts. Also included: 2 $100 gift cards, 2 Women's large hoodies, 2 Men's XL hoodies, 4 Tree House hats.
