In my glass now is Allagash White. It's BA's #1 ranked witbier and I think it's deserving. It's really good, full of complex notes of yeast, banana, clove, wheat and lemon.

I worked at the race track in high school/college. My duties beyond managing the usher staff a few years in was to bring the trophy to the Winners Circle at Hawthorne Race Course for stake races.

IIRC, it was for a race Bill Shoemaker came in for November 26, 1989, his last appearance at the track. Pat presented the trophy but I talked with him for a bit before hand. It was post Karate Kid days, but he was more known for Happy Days, not my favorite show but liked him and Big Al in it.

    Hi everyone, Advocates!
Sorry for the low attendance these days, but I'm having long days at work ...
I had a great beer last night.
And not only for my personal taste, but precisely for the quality of the product which is undisputed as well as for the splendid result achieved compared to what is actually communicated to those who buy this bottle.
I don't mean "in perfect style", because I believe that, especially this kind of wild beers, they all differ in some way, often highlighting differences in the production process.

Trillium Brewing Company (Boston, USA) - BLACK CURRANT SOAK - American Sour Wheat Ale aged in Oak Barrels

33 cl bottle, bought at the Luppolo 12 shop (Rome), next to the pub, (10 €).
    Bottled on 07 June 2018.
Just uncorked the smell of berries (I would have said just black currant, but also blackberry probably since I know it better).
Ruby color, foam (tasty, red fruit of the forest) initially more abundant than I expected, but after a while the beer rises, returning it to a small "hat" that accompanies the whole drink.
The drink releases a taste of berries, in this case currant, but again I find a taste very similar to blackberry, also reflections that refer to blueberry.
The note is sour, more than acid in the strict sense. A minimal and delicate astringency that stands out in the taste of wild berries.
On the final pleasant intervention of woody and barrel scents that give a truly high-class closure to this beer in which all the elements of which it is prized are detectable to the senses (especially to the taste) and are in perfect balance with each other.
A very tasty aftertaste of black currant remains on the palate, while the tongue comes out quite clean and dry.
Well structured beer with a body to the height (light, but not watered down), which gives a pleasant, refreshing and decidedly satisfying drink.
Splendid balance (explosion of black currant - slightly astringent note: acid, but not intrusive - final with notes of wood, to round off both the taste of the wild fruit and the sour "wild" note, then on the palate a pleasant hint of wild fruit ) in which all the elements make their contribution in a recognizable way.

    SMALL PERSONAL CONSIDERATION:
Obviously, the taste of currant is really dominant, perhaps even a lower intensity from this point of view would not have damaged the elegance of the beer itself, but so be it ... Often it is precisely by highlighting in a very (efemism ...) evident the main element of a beer to perhaps obtain awards and recognitions, when, perhaps, for the teaching of that style (see BJCP) something else is explicitly provided. But I want to know this is neither a controversy, nor a complaint... just something has been on my mind.

Safe Distance. Double IPA from Oddity Brewing (Barcelona, Spain).
Not exceptional. But I like the floral notes and somewhat bitter taste in this one. I definitely buy this again.
    Cheers
