Returning to Southern California for a wedding for the first time in 9 years Nd looking for some advice.
    1. How available is Pliny the Elder in bottle shops? Last time I was there you had to meet the delivery driver and there were bottle limits.
    2. Spending 3 days in Temecula. What are the can't miss breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops in the area?
    3. Spending 3 days in San Diego. We have enjoyed Tornado, San Diego Tap house, and O'Brien's last visits.
    Any other can't miss places?

A: It's everywhere however, move forward past this and explore others. Though I understand many just have to have it, there are better alternatives. depends on where you're staying in san diego but there are several locations you can visit as far as bottle shops are concerned. Bottle craft in little italy and liberty station is what I recommend.

A: not in Temecula but if you can, try electric brewing in Murrieta, CA. if you're an 80's kid like me then 8 bit brewing is something you may enjoy. in Temecula, go to after shock for their home made soda. You might like ironfire but your mileage may vary.

A: Please see #1 also Toronado is dead in North park. hamiltons, o'briens harland, pure project, alesmith, north park brewing, mikkeller, modern times. and can name some more but this should be good enough. when in north park, go explore and enjoy. cheers.

Hamilton's is gone too.....I would add Pizza Port to the list above. What are your preferred styles @Schultz ?

Thanks for all the information. Our preferred styles are IPAs especially non hazy ones, pilsners, and pale ales. We are staying in Pacific Beach area. Pizza Port will be a definite stop, any location better than others?

Solaris is right next to Electric and is also a must stop in Temecula. Wild Barrel has also opened a location. Relentless is also making great beer.

Second vote for Solaris, which has an interesting mix of beer to offer (plus good tunes, you can even bring your own records on Thursdays). Electric is strictly for hazies/slushies. If you're in that area, I'd also hit up Backyard Bottleshop --decent draft selection plus lots of good take-home options (yes, including Pliny).

Based on your preferences, Ironfire will make you happy. They have a Tasting Room in Old Town as well as the OG at the brewery.

Eppig is worth a visit in SD.

Second that pliny statement. I have bought it twice and never again as there are so many better options. Its like a novelty beer now..

Pizza Port is ok but beware the pizza. Mine was horrible ( i ordered a pepperoni ), it was flooded with loud children and swarming with flies.

Thanks again for the info. Our schedule does not allow for many brewpub visits in Temecula as most seem to be closed Mon, Tues, and Weds. and we are only there Tues and Weds with a wedding on Thursday. We will be visiting Pizza Port, Coronado, Ballast Point, Mikeller, Green Flash, Societe, while in San Diego.

Is Alesmiths barrel room (Speakeasy) currently open? What is the process for a visit?

I'd drop Green Flash for one of Alesmith or North Park Brewing Company. Green Flash isn't nearly the same brewery it was 9 years ago if its been that long since your last visit.

i would agree with dropping Green Flash, as well as likely Ballast Point and Mikkeler. These are easily superceded by; North Park, Eppig, Rip Current and Burgeon, if as far north as Bagby (Oceanside) then that would be a must for flawless executed clean ales and lagers.

My favorite 5 breweries in San Diego County right now. North Park, Eppig, Rip Current, Burgeon and Bagby. My fridge is currently full of various canned Bagby beers. For all you old school west coast IPA lovers you can pick up a 4 pack of Goober Crew right now. With those breweries I can get a wide range of styles. Not sure any of them have those crappy pastry stouts or barrel aged stouts with so much stuff added you can’t taste the barrel though. But I stay away from those.
