I actually haven't had any of their beers and was simply responding to the post above that it wasn't HFCS+ cocoa, which is either a gross understatement or reflecting exceedingly low expectations.

Personally I would reserve such descriptors for breweries like Horus, Aslin, Other Half, and Hidden Springs, to name a few names.

BL has always had more drinkability, barrel character, and balance between all elements, while also nailing inspired flavors with just the right amount of adjuncts, for me. But their non-adjunct stuff is right up there with the best of them too.

I've had plenty of their IPAs and BA Stouts.

Their IPAs are ok but that's not hard to find anywhere and every BA Stout ive had was way too sweet for my liking. Scatter Signal,Pie vs Pie, Study Break,FO all were just not good TO ME.
I will probably give this bottle i got my hands on a try if i don't decide to trade it

Well yeah, it's decidedly different than those bottles you didn't like. If you could swing it, it would definitely be worth a side by side with a Voodoo BRC bottle, considering it was a collab with them, and they specialize in non-adjunct BA stouts. It'd also be advisable to seek out a Darkstar November if you haven't had it--never lets me down.

Either way, I'd be interested to hear what you thought of any or all of that.

Finally cracked my bottle of details & dialects and was not a fan, neither were the 2 others i shared it with. It felt incohesive, boozey, and had very little peach flavor. Bit of a disappointment as i was anticipating much better.

I was just saying that as an exaggerated joke, poking fun at some people’s opinions of pastry stouts as a whole. You should give them a shot though and see for yourself. Some of their beers are sweet but they’re mostly all good in my opinion.

I've got friends in Orange I've been meaning to visit, and when I do, Bottle Logic will be on the itinerary!

I ended up managing to try the berry pie stout a couple days ago, not really my thing. The overripe blackberries/boysenberries for whatever reason doesn't do it for me, and those flavors dominated to a point where I didn't taste much cinnamon or granola. I was admittedly in a bit of a rush so I didn't give it a decent shot to warm up where those flavors might have come out a bit more, but it was a pass for me. Always excited to see what's coming down the pipe next for BL though.

I'm hoping in honor of spooky szn they bring back PIYW or Spice Must Flow on draft, I know pumpkin beers seem to be on the outs and I believe they stated they wouldn't bottle PIYW after last year, but I've enjoyed popping one of those bottles at Halloween these last few years.

I’m a BL junkie. Rarely have anything less than sterling to say about them. The Spice Must Flow ranks up there with Astronautica Exotica as my least favorite releases. I thought Spice really battled itself on taste/nose. Everyone’s different though! In a world of crappy pumpkin beers, Picture IYW is still tasty. I get one or two every release.

Thanks for the notes on Appied. Also helps to point out your preferences and how you drank it (somewhat hurriedly). I’m happy I don’t live closer. Everything BL releases feels worth a try. I’d be at the tap room all the dang time if I wasn’t halfway across the country. As it is, I have a shockingly cool beer bud who gets me a bottle of nearly everything released. And now I’m poor.

I'm actually with you on Astronautica, I bought a few bottles and after having 1 myself, gave the other 1-2 away to a friend who's super into tiki stuff.

I feel like cinnamon would have been more detectable near room temp, granola too. But I think it's more about the fact that overripe boysenberry/blackberry almost bleeds into berry flavored cough syrup, which might have ruined it for me.

I'll try every Stasis they come out with though. It's awesome they're producing so much these days, I never feel like I'm under the gun to purchase bottles unlike say, early 2020 and prior.

Add Basic Math to the list of pumpkin beers I want them to bring back. A pumpkin spice barleywine? Come on now.

Totally forgot about this one but yes, absolutely. My wife said it was her favorite "fall" beer that she's ever had. I'd be in there multiple times a week if they brought that back and one of PIYW/TSMF.

Unrelated, but I opened my lone bottle of Currant War tonight. Even when I'm not such a fan of the beer, gotta give it to BL for nailing the flavor of what they're going for. The currant/violet flower flavors go pretty well together, kind of like a jammy/flower/earthiness that works better than I thought it would. The vanilla to me is on the front and sort of rounds out the currant, but currant definitely is the dominant flavor. I think I like it a bit better from the bottle than on tap.

I have a PIYW ‘19 that I put up on a trading group and I got no bites. It’s spooky szn!?!
I stayed away from that berry pie stout. I just want nothing to do with berries and stouts. I stopped buying Jam the Radar because I ended up trading all of them away. I just don’t like the tartness.

You're not gonna get much of anything for PIYW I think unless its like a '17 or earlier (if it was made earlier than that). They made such a limited run last year they stated it was probably going to be the last year they bottled it. I think pumpkin ales/beers in general are pretty much dead.

Unrelated: Opened a Cryopreservation last night, still pretty good but the melted pistachio ice cream flavor has started to turn toward roasted pistachio/dark chocolate. The milkiness/sweetness and/or freshness of the pistachios has fallen off a decent amount. If you were a fan of it fresh, you probably want to drink it sooner rather than later.

2021 Fundamental Observation sold out locally within 48 hours. 16 bottles of 2020 FO that no one wanted. Store owner said he asked for more, but distributor cannot guarantee any more commitment. I missed out so far. For those of you lucky enough to have acquired it, congratulations. Look forward to reviews in the virtual bar.

Did something happen to Bottle Logic’s IG account?

You haven’t been blocked; Instagram has deactivated our account. We’ve seen posts from so many brewery peers about content being pulled down and account deletion being threatened over the past two weeks — after posting our typical Stasis Project release graphic announcing the new availability of Electric Eden, we were logged out of the business account with deactivation notifications. While we work to appeal the deactivation and restore the account, keep an eye out for our release updates at our Facebook and Twitter media channels!

It’s a particularly unfortunate time to lose our best channel of communication while such important dialogue is taking place around MBCC and the continued goal of making progress toward a safer, more equitable environment throughout the brewing industry. Here are my thoughts on our attendance:

“I will be at MBCC pouring the beers that I developed and modeling the values that I stand for under the banner of the brand that I have built. I’m Lindsay, the Creative Director of Bottle Logic Brewing. As a female in a leadership role, I am committed to attending because my withdrawal from this space will only lead to a less diverse space.

Perhaps my noise hasn’t been loud or brave enough yet, but I’ve been here, quietly doing the work since the beginning. I’ve got the restraining orders against poorly behaving guests and festival attendees to show for it. I’ve been the scapegoat other breweries use to keep the same undesirable guests out of their own festivals. I’ve been pushed off CBC panels in favor of another male voice whose title wouldn’t be confused for “the marketing girl.” I’m tired of being painted into a corner and having my decisions made for me.

Abusers should be driven from the industry, but organizations and the Brewing Industry culture as a whole should be improved and reformed and that comes from engagement, not exclusion.

It’s important that Mikkeller’s history was brought into the spotlight again this week — it helps ensure that they are held accountable and that their missteps are not forgotten. It ensures that the conversations are happening, and for me and the diverse team of kind hearts at the brewery I represent, it feels important to be there and be part of the change.”
