Can someone tell me what you got for DLD2020 and what it cost? I’m not great at using the search feature. Looking to see how it compares to this year. Thanks!

You need to bookmark https://darklordday.info . It has everything by year. @kodt is doing the Dark Lord's work.

I was just on that page looking at the bands from 2019. Which made me sad about Power Trip. But now I'm just think about Harlem chopped cheese.

Guessing we will see the variant list before the on sale next Monday?

Maybe! Last year I believe was the only time info was available before. Info besides barrels was released a week before; barrel info was released when tickets went on sale. This is all per https://darklordday.info/index.php/Dark_Lord_Day_2020

From other threads seems like there is more interest this year in DLD. I for one did not participate last year, but will be this year. Looking for this one to sell out in less than a week unlike last years.

I don't think it will sell out. I think like last year they will have an unsold surplus and it will just go to Warpigs or get rolled into vintage releases in future years like the y have been doing. No fest= not so much interest. DL and variants are kind of becoming dinosaurs.

Maybe I'm way off here, but I think regular Dark Lord is no longer a special beer to 99% of beer nerds. To the extent that if they stopped releasing it, and used all of the base beer for variants, it would increase interest / sales.

The 200 dollar price tag and 4 regular and one variant did not excite people but 160 2 reg 2 variants will make a big difference.

I think so. I was set to sit out but now think I'm going to be headed to Indiana for my lottery ticket.

I would guess that the 2021 allotments will sell out before the raining 2020’s. But before committing, I would like to know quantities of each.

I still don’t see it selling out. As Guy mentioned, DL isn’t anything special anymore. Same with the variants. I don’t think the price matters. These are the same people who. Drive 6 hours each way to buy a $100 12oz bottle from Toppling Goliath. DL just isn’t worth it these days, the dropping in price supports that, without a festival.

I am going to have to just agree with all of you. I was very surprised that last year's totes did not sell out. Assuming the number of totes available for 2021 is similar to 2020, I don't see it selling out again. I sincerely hope the festival is back on in 2022, but I am not going to hold my breath. I do think the DL Variants are still some of the best beers out there. The taste and quality are still top notch in my opinion. The problem is that the Pastry Stout Marketplace is much more packed and the options available are overwhelmingly large. It's much easier for the DL release to get lost in the ocean of pastry stout releases.

I guess I may be alone in seeing it sell out. Not an instant sell out or anything, but with lower price, more variants, proxies allowed this certainly has all the check marks for a sellout in todays beer game.

4 regulars and 1 variant and no proxies for 200 was just too much. Like you said regular dark lord doesn’t do much but their variants will move and 4 of a 22oz beer is not ideal.

Proxies here aren't quite as "useful" as for other releases. If you really trust the person, great, but given the random nature of the variants I'd certainly worry about someone picking up my bottles and giving me the worst variants they got, and I'm even someone who likes the lower tier variants more than most people.

Personally, I'm moving internationally next year and would've had a hard time justifying a 4 reg, 1 variant bag since I already have so much regular but 2 and 2 is a lot easier for me to stomach (but I'm still undecided on whether I'll buy this year). It helps that I don't have to worry too much about DL sitting around for a while before I get around to drinking it. I had a 2013 Port DL recently and it was still excellent without major oxidization.

Just have them video tape the pick up and bottle reveal. Or ask them to put their allocations side by side with yours and you pick a random bag from them to see what you get when you pick them up. If my friends ask me to proxy, not only will they get what they draw, they’ll also have the option to swap any variant they didn’t want with the ones in my cellar I’m not super keen on.
