Had my first Gyrator last night and thought it was absolutely lovely. It got me wondering why more brewers don't release Doppelbocks this time of year. The flavors in gyrator are a great melange of malty, raisiney, smooth nutty goodness that positively begs to be drank in this transitional weather. Gonna need a campfire on a cool night with some decaying leaves wafting through the air for the next bottle I open.

I don't know man, an imperial stout could be anything from about 9 to over 18% abv. That's a big spread and nothing sucks more than opening an awesome beer and after one sip saying "well shit, anyone want this? I gotta drive." Luckily UnTappy gives a pretty good idea of abv for stuff That's unlisted though I sometimes wonder where that info comea from.

And that spread doesn't make you wary? It does me. Even 7 to 8 would grab my attention.

However, I'm confident I could have one, savor it, and be okay to get home. 2? Or one of the 9% and a regular beer? I would be a little paranoid. In-between water is everyone's friend.

I think the crux of this discussion is that we'd prefer to know BEFORE opening the beer.

And my point is that I have a pretty good idea what I'm getting based on the style. I'm sort of surprised most BAs wouldn't.

What is this “water” you speak of. Is that like hard seltzer?

It's some kind of NA hard seltzer that's served still. The fitness kids will drink anything these days to shave off a couple calories.

99.9999999999% of people buying New Glarus aren't "BAs" I'm sure they might appreciate it.

I don't think the vast majority of beer drinkers are perusing these forums or using Untappd. Hence the utility of providing consumers with information they can use to make responsible choices.

Didn't we already cover this? Those that aren't BAs probably couldn't give a shit.

I know so many beer drinkers who don't look for ABV, they're just buying beer.

In my experience it's usually the exact other way around.

A lot of regular drinkers I see order based on ABV, if they aren't the types to order based on "color"/style...i.e. they either want lighter beers (calories), or stronger beers (alcohol). ABV plays a key role in that decision, whether ordering from a draft list or shopping at a grocery store cooler.

This is one of the most boomer-ass arguments that's ever taken place on this stupid website. "BACK IN MY DAY MEN WERE MEN AND IPAs WERE 6%!"

Nearly every fucking beer on the planet has the ABV listed on the package it is a helpful guide and there's no reason it shouldn't be on New Glarus'. End of story.

Yeah, no true Scotsman would ever care about ABV. Saying anyone who isn't a BA "Couldn't give a shit" isn't really giving beer advocacy a good name IMO.
