I mean I was only half-serious, but it was by far the worst batch of a Tree House beer I've ever had. There are pages discussing it on BA, for what it's worth. Even spills into the next month's thread and was all over Untappd too. Not just a facebook complaint.

I had this terrible horrible no good very bad batch of VG and it wasn't that bad, especially since VG appears to have been susceptible to oxidation in the past but still holds up surprisingly well when slightly oxidized (a touch buttery). The 8/24 Julius was far more shocking IMO and even more worthy of a "statement" that never came.

The Trillium situation is different because that was a one-off and just a bad beer. They knew it was trash and even sat on it for a couple weeks in the hopes it would "develop" in the can. It didn't, but they still pawned it off on their unsuspecting clientele in what was a gigantic "fuck you" to their loyal customers.

So yes, it was far more infamous than what TH did, but that's par for the course for Trillium. Nate is never intentional or malicious in his fuck-ups. They're also super rare and he usually goes to great lengths to make you whole, so the 8/24 Julius and this batch of VG are "infamous" by TH standards, which isn't much, heh.

I should know better by know than to expect differently, but is it crazy to anyone else how long anything not hoppy lasts? I mostly expect it with the lagers/classic styles, but the bottles hang around forever. Either they're enormous batches or people are sleeping on them (or maybe barrel aged stuff is no longer part of the hype zeitgeist in general). Pretty surprising to me, wonder if that's the case with most places now and I just don't realize it.

I think people were into the heavy stuff from TH early on because of the novelty, but considering their output and specialty, they're just too renown for hops, and rightly so considering the consistency even after ramping up several times. Sure some of their alternative options are pretty nice, but people looking to spend money at TH are going for cases of hops. The trade value of almost anything not SP, Hill, TG, Anchorage or lambic just isn't high enough for people to go out of their way to buy that stuff in bulk anymore.

At the same time, you're right. Decent BA options are popping up everywhere. I don't really think they're all good enough to scratch the itch for me, but for many others they are.

Their barrel aged stouts haven't really hit for me... but then again, all the one's I've tried have been blended. Would like to see more barleywines that were more accessible (such as Straight Jacket from Revolution) and not "super rare wax top therefore high price point" offerings. Tree of Life is very good, but they went back to the 500ml bottle and increased the price. It's also blended.

The blended part makes the comparison somewhat moot, but despite the format difference, I believe the current Tree of Life is a lower price per oz than Straight Jacket.

I looked up the price after posting out of curiosity and noticed it was cheaper than I thought. For some reason I remembered paying over $10 for my bottles, but clearly not.

I respect a brewery a lot more when they do it. I stop buying beer altogether when a brewery can't handle criticism. There's a local brewery that was clearly having packaging issues with their IPA's, i brought it up and they got offensive. Few months later they're bragging on IG about finally installing equipment that gets rid of short/over fills on their canning line.

Does the treehouse quadruple shot series a stout that contains lactose? This is hard information to find. Thanks in advance for anyone who can reference treehouse staff or personally know the answer.

They do not say they contain lactose or that they're milk stouts. The only one in the 'Shot' series that has lactose is Single Shot.

Yup, that’s what I have noticed as well. They talk about how thick they are & don’t speak to double or triple mashing the stout. Just trying to not get lactose bombed since I am lactose intolerant

I think they just boil them for a while, plus they have a pretty high abv.

I can confirm that the Quad Shots are very syrupy and sweet. They're right at the brink where it's almost too much, especially the 500ml bottles. I'm glad to see they're offering more stouts in 12oz format

I'm with you on avoiding the lactose. Gives me atomic bomb farts (no dairy products do tho... weird right?). Sucks because the maple stouts are all lactose (MOC, Impermanence, Permanence) and they're some of the best I've had

Yeah, the treehouse lactose stuff seems to score significantly higher, but I don't care for lactose as much. Even before I became lactose intolerant, I wasn't a big fan of using lactose in stouts. I much prefer the double and triple mash stouts and that's the "proper way" to brew legit thick motor oil type stouts. I feel like adding lactose is just a shortcut for brewers.

Processed yesterday and posted to my account today.

FWIW, I drank mine and enjoyed them. They weren't great, but they weren't vile either. Still, a classy move.

I would like to have a draft in Sandwich but, once again, they are cryptic on Twitter and offer no instructions / info on how to make a reservation. What am I missing?
