Next up I had to go with Bottle Logic Lagerithm since @Roy_Hobbs reviewed it so glowingly here a bit ago. Of course, this one also comes courtesy of @Beersnake1.

Pours a clear dark chestnut color. Thin, weak, fleeting tan colored head forms on the beer momentarily. The overall appearance is actually remarkably like cola. Aroma is fantastic - its rich, malty, somewhat bready, with notes of vanilla, nuts and a hint, no - a whiff of coffee coming through.

Taste follows the nose with the nutty malts taking center stage along with notes of pumpernickel, cocoa, again a fleeting hint of coffee, and some mild earthy hops on the back end. Very mild sweetness is present. Feel is light, easy drinking, and smooth. Medium, but prickly carbonation. Somewhat powdery on the finish.

Overall its an incredibly tasty beer. This is exactly what I want to drink on a cool crisp fall evening around the campfire. It honestly is pretty reminiscent of a nice brown ale - but obviously they are calling it an American Dark lager - in that regard its probably closest to a Czech Dark Lager. Delicious beer and one that Id drink repeatedly if it was readily available.

    3.5 | 4.25 | 4.25 | 4 | 4.25 = 4.18 (+6.9% rDev)

So not quite as high as @Roy_Hobbs, but still quite a bit above rDev ... although I am used to be well above rDev when it comes to lagers on BA.

American Solera Dry Hopped Western Vibes Oak aged Lager, 5.3% ABV; 4.13 overall

Pours a slightly hazed straw/gold color with 3 fingers of pearl colored head. Average head retention & better lacing

    S: Bready notes, lemon, grassyness

T: Follows the nose, a little barrel dryness also along with some sour lemon drop notes & a little lime up front. Sourness, a hint of green banana & grassyness mixes in with lemons, slight bready notes & oaky dryness as this warms, Finishes dry, slightly sour with lemons & grassyness, plus a little lemon grass latr

MF: Medium body, soft carbonation, decent balance

This is throwback, pre-Pilsen Lager; a window to the past, pretty easy to drink

A big beer to end the weekend.

Anchorage A Deal With The Devil Double Oaked Vanilla Bean.

Poured a deep mahogany brown into my new Black Banners Society glass. Viscous. Minimal head that subsides to a thin ring around the glass’s edge.

Enticing aromas of vanilla, stewed fruit, brown sugar, dry wood, holidays spices and bourbon. Incredibly complex nose that changes with each approach of the nose. The vanilla and the oaky wood start to take over as the beer warms. It smells so good that one needs to inhale deeply prior to each sip.

On the tongue it is even more impressive. The bourbon barrel is present up front, with the woody character really shining. Lovely warm vanilla, sponge toffee and a background of spiced, stewed fruits. The sweetness is even handed. Just a hint of woody dryness.

Full bodied. Substantial but not syrupy. Rich and elegant.

This is phenomenal. Easily the best flavoured Barleywine I’ve had the pleasure of drinking. I can’t wait to crack open the triple oaked now.

    Well Hello Late Night NBW
NBS BIF #14 Mystery Beer courtesy of the immensely generous @Whyteboar
    [IMG]

Initial pour pumps the light tan head up to breaching level. Had to back off on the pour. The color is a glorious gem like amber, almost clear. When I shine a light, it's damn near ruby in color The nose is already hinting at cascade hops, rye grain.....Light, zesty citrus comes through in the flavor but the dominant hues are what I'm getting as rye inspired brown bread, peppery herbal notes, and a nice medium mouthfeel.
So my guess is a rye ale or a rye IPA.

And the reveal. Well I got the Cascade hops right. But I think I sometimes attribute some of the Cascade qualities I find to rye grain, even when it's not there. And this is one of those cases.
Really tasty. And as a big fan of Cascade...and I mean come on, I'm from the land of Sierra Nevada.
Thanks Craig @Whyteboar ! A really tasty ride.

After Autumn weather is finally here I decided to celebrate with this rye based beast. Smell is complex but I can't detect any rye notes, or maybe I just don't what to concentrate on. Plenty of booze, chocolate and brown sugar though. Taste adds licorice to the mix, particularly before it warmed some. Mouthfeel was nicely thick. This reminds me of a lot of Jackie O's big stouts but slightly different; maybe the rye is the slight difference but whatever it is eludes my descriptive abilities. It doesn't taste like rye bread for whatever that's worth.

This wasn't mentioned in the stats but this was a collab with Branch & Bone Artisan Ales of Dayton. As with most of their one offs, I really wish this was in regular rotation.

I'll join @2beerdogs with a little bit of late night NBW. However, us CA folks are still in the early hours!

My next beer is Hawley Hefeweizen from Wallenpaupack. Provided by @JayORear through the current BIF. Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice opaque orange with white head that quickly dissipates. Nose is wheat, grass, herbs, fresh oranges, honey, tea, and a bit of ice cream. Really smooth.

Taste: Sweet. Bright orange notes, with a subtle ice cream note throughout. Definitely keep thinking of orange creamsicle. Wheat, grass, and a bit of tree sap. Almost a maple taste, along with a slight caramel note. Really crisp and fresh. Really well made.

Feel and overall: Light to medium on the mouthfeel. Alcohol is not really detectable. Just a really nice light and fresh beer. Very refreshing. Overall, this is a fantastic German-style beer. Really love it.

    Hey, NBWers,

Some last gasp glorious weather today in the wilds of Spokanistan.

Today I went hiking around People's Park for a couple hours.
Then I stopped by Iron Goat and had their fresh hop ale, Tis But A Fresh Wound, accompanied by a Schnitzel Sandwich & some German potato salad.
It's a nice citra mosaic fresh hopped beer. Doesn't re-invent the wheel, but it went down real easy.

About an hour ago, I had an IPA brewed in the town just up the Columbia from where I grew up. Splashdown, from White Bluffs.
Not my jam. It's a real malty, juicy mess. Too bad, cuz when White Bluffs is on, they're ON. Can't all be winners, I guess.

Alright, this is going to be my last beer of the night. I would tell you what it is, but its the mystery beer that @Beersnake1 sent me, so other than it being a 10% ABV beer and bottled on 2/16/2010 - I know nothing else.

It pours a dark dried prune brown color. Thin fizzy head forms on the beer and actually sticks around for a while. The aroma is interesting - it reminds me of an old bottle of Bigfoot. You get some dark fruit notes, along with old hop notes. There is a bit of a metallic note in the nose, some brown sugar.

Taste is more of the same - its malty up front with some old/aged hop notes. There are some dark fruits and brown sugar with a lovely warmth on the back end. Notes of leather and bready malts come through as well. Feel is lighter bodied for such a big beer. Mild carbonation. Pretty dry on the finish.

So overall I am thinking this is some kind of aged American Barleywine ... as to the particular brewery/brand? No idea ... so, lets find out what it is?

So, not an American barleywine ... an Adambier? I have no experience with Adambiers, but given this is brewed with Pacific Northwest hops, I am going to go ahead and guess its not a strict historical example. On its own merits its a very nice beer and one that has clearly aged incredibly gracefully. Thank you so much to @Beersnake1 for the chance to try this one!
