I believe all of their BA releases spend a year in the barrel. That being said, most breweries will pull the beer from the oak (at some point) & transfer it to steel to add any adjuncts.

I was hoping they waited longer to pull the beer out of the barrels last year but it certainly didn't taste that way; it seemed like the same amount of barrel as usual for the recent vintages. That said, I've never had one of the 2 year aged variants so I don't actually know how much of a difference longer aging makes for DL.

I'm concerned I'm having a stroke and losing some memory, but what variants are these?

I think they had a 2 year Portuguese brandy

And the 2-Year Militia from last year.

That was the one huge surprise for me from the Variant List for the 2020 Totes. No Militia and No 2-Year Militia. They gave all those away. I've been looking for a regular 2020 Militia for a year now. The 2-year was pretty good, but nothing earth shattering.

Good luck. Those things have been hard to come by since January 6.

As far as I can tell, Dark Lord is no longer for sale on the website. But then again, no beer is listed for curbside pick up either.

Sacred Sword was awesome for what it's worth. It would top Hellaboozie for me by quite a bit. Rrari was an absolute surprise. I've had CTM twice and outstanding, but I liked '17 better. FVM turned on me or was terrible from '17 when I finally drank it the following year.

Still chasing Handjee and for some reason sat this year out. Just didn't want to drive to Indiana and end up with another CMT and no Handjee.

Honestly, if I'd known I was getting another Sacred Sword I would've probably sprung for the other mystery in '20 and been more interested in scooping a '21. After semi fresh Rrari, been my favorite to date of the variants.

The one year you should not have sat out! You had a 67% chance of getting a Handjee in a 2021 package.

No joke, but man, I just didn't feel like it for some reason. Maybe it was the lack of the thrill?

My friend who did a tasting including all the 2020 variants said Pierre's Javelin was one of the standouts.

If my name was Pierre, I would call it my Javelin.

Totally agree with you on 2019 Loadstar. It was awesome on draft. My buddy and I got a bottle and drank it about a year ago and it was a sweet mess. Rrari was still pretty good. Still got the strawberry but to me it was lacking barrel.

I just cracked a 2019 Lounge and I don’t like tequila or peppers. Lounge was awesome. Very balanced and very complex. Great brew.

The 2020 is a bit different with the mezcal giving it a slight smokey character.

I still found 2018 to be the best which was just tequila and no bourbon like 2019.

all 3 are good though, some people may not like the smoke in 2020 tho.

Anyone drank Reptilefund? Depending on what I get this year, I may finally have to trade for either of the mezcal variants.

Yeah I actually liked that one. Not nearly as smokey as the scotch variants. And the Dark Lord/Bourbon sweetness helps balance it quite well.

Loadstar was probably our group's favorite on draft at the actual fest for 2019 DLD. Was a really good beer freshly tapped.
